Adjusting time for "Lights Out"?

Post by smarty2 »

I have been laboriously working on a scenario for ECMLS with an early start, (4:30 am) set in mid August, thing is it doesn't get properly light till about 6'ish but all the lights go out at 5! Plunging stations streets and houses into darkness! Is there a way to change this set time of lights out?

If you are using one of the new 3D Clouds weather patterns then the time the lights come on and go off is still controlled by the "time of day" blueprints, even though dawn and dusk are controlled by the Silverlining's own coding.

Yes I am using the new 3D cloud setting but how and where will they be, and can one alter them? And most importantly is it very technical???? :o

Unfortunately you'll have to use the old weather if you wish to have the lights going on/off at the right time.

You don't have to alter anything to do with the new 3D system, which is just as well as you can't. You have to alter the "time of day" files, which are defined for a specific route. I found that often routes are set up with the wrong dawn and dusk settings for their geographical location. Not an issue with the old weather because then both the weather and the worlds lights would both be wrong, but would still be in sync so the error not really noticed. I got it to work by finding the real world co-ords for the route (or at least the mid-point location of the route) using Google Maps, then found a website that would convert these co-ords into the right system that the "time of day" files use. I'm not at home at present so can't post better details, but if you're interested and want to know more just ask.

For ECMLS you'd need to extract the TimeOfDay folder into the ..\RailWorks\Assets\RSC\ECMLS folder. In there you'll find the 4 .bin files relating to times such as dawn, dusk etc for each season.
If you open Summer.bin with RW Tools you'll see that the break of dawn is set to start at 4:37, as the sun rises, with 'full' dawn at 4:50---is this when you notice the lights go out?--morning itself is defined as starting at 6:30.

I've no idea which of these values would need tweaking, but I'm sure scefhwil will post about that.

See?...not that technical really, just typing in new numbers :)

EDIT: As you have the AP lighting pack installed, which makes things darker, you might find that the times and lighting aren't far off in a default installation.

Hello Gary me old sport, Lights out bang on 5am! :o I did switch the weather to a RW's one and it is pretty light even at 4:30 in the morning, but at least the lights don't go out at 5!

Which one did you end up using Martin?...it'd be interesting to compare the two to try and get an understanding (maybe) of what's happening.

The trouble with the 3D weather in relation to this is the sunrise and sunset times appear to be specific to the date you choose in the scenario so the correct time for the lights to come on during a day in June will be different to a day in August but both come under the 'Summer' blueprint.
