Usually I'd keep my opinions about DTG products to myself, I've learnt to adopt the "what will be, will be" attitude.
In comparison to the JT version the DTG one is pretty poor, always expected really...
Some observations:
Nice external model, lazy textures in some places. E.g the exhaust ports are the same colour as the roof even though the've obviously been mapped and shadow baked.
The cab is acceptable, but has its inaccuracies.
Sounds are pretty rubbish. Best thing about them is the startup and idle sounds. When power is applied it sounds similar to the default Turbo with a bit more bass. No turbocharger or heavy sensation of movement.
The horn sounds okay but each tone seems to go on forever! (Pet hate of mine...)
No brake squeal, a pretty standout feature of these units.
Physics are very toy-like, 4% throttle will easily get you to 25mph+ in less than a minute.
The particle system from the exhaust ports seems a bit excessive too, I found the unit makes my system stutter, even though it's a top spec, most recent Alienware jobbie.
While I don't feel I've been robbed of £11.99, I can't help but get the impression it's another rushed release. Or it's been developed by a team with no real interest in railways. I remember proudly showing my Mum models I used to build, only for her to reply with "yes dear, it's a train..." Regardless of how accurate, or not, it looked! I get similar feelings here. My Mum appears to be the DTG QC person!!!
I work as the Creative Director of a design firm. I've often thought what I'd say to my staff if I was presented with something like a DTG release!
Hopefully the community comes up with a fix or two. As I said previous, the model is nice! (AP, I'm looking at you!
