Two things I'd like an answer to, if possible !
The first one is, I've got the money, if I need it, and probably will get it. I'm very curious, indeed. I've thought long and hard about it, and finally decided on it. I want to get myself a copy of T:ANE, just to see for myself exactly what it's like, and to compare the two - TS2015, and T:ANE. The question is, I'm slightly by all the stuff listed in the online ad itself. There's too many options available, and I don't want to make a mistake, and waste my money. I need to make an informed decision, and get something that is worthwhile, and will answer all my questions.
Is that correct, it won't be available until February, right ? Is pre-ordering the best thing to do, in most cases ? I can wait that long, if necessary. If it were possible, I'd like to actually view a video of the new setup, but is it possible at all, or will I have to just wait, like everyone else ?
This isn't to mean I'm considering a change-over to Trainz, either, as I'm more interested in TS2015. It's a lot better, overall, and I'm saying I've been hooked on it since it first came out, and it's gotten a lot better, over time, as well.
In the meantime, is there actually anything worthwhile to fill in the time, while waiting for T:ANE to come out ? I've gotten most of the stuff for TS2015, but there may be one or two things I've overlooked, somewhere ? I'm now retired, and want to enjoy my hobby while I'm able to, as there's nothing wrong with my brain at the moment, apart from forgetting a few simple things, and that's more-or-less near-normal, I guess. Cheers for now !
Regards...

Hey Jim, you should write things down like I do, but there is one drawback with that, is that you sometimes forget what you have written down. I have just retired.

Still sounds and (from the few glimpses in the video) looks very game-like, which is the thing that's always turned me off of the Trainz franchise in the past. I do like the concept of billowing smoke in tunnels and under bridges, as well as being optimised for multi-core processors, but can't see myself bothering with it, tbh.
To address one of your questions, Jim:
Personally, unless I've got inside info, then I seldom buy into pre-release/pre-order software, even if I've got the cash. You may feel differently.
Rik.
To address one of your questions, Jim:
Only you can answer that. You'll be pleased as punch if it turns out to be amazingly good, but you're likely to feel ripped off if it turns out to be a pile of pants.ka959 wrote: Is pre-ordering the best thing to do, in most cases ?

I backed the Kickstarter project and to be honest as things stand I wished I hadn't. I'd wait and see what happens when it's released.

I can't see the point of paying up front for downloadable software - it's infinitely reproducible and unlikely to be in short supply. I'm also wary about being an early adopter - particularly if they can pin-point the February release date in November - why not wait for the reviews and let others find the early bugs? Having worked in the software industry there is always a divide between the marketeers that want to trumpet the release as early as possible and the more cautious development and test engineers (who have have to deliver it - by the pre-stated date). However, as always, which way you go comes down to personal choice.
All the best,
Steve

Save your Money Jim, in my opinion.
I have seen some comparison shots between the current TS and the forthcoming TZ and in the case of the latter, it looked distinctly like the early days of MSTS.

Same as Mr 37114, I did the kickstarter thing and I'm pretty underwhelmed by it. Maybe it will get better as it is developed but at the moment I'd stick with TS2015.

Even as a long time and enthusiastic support of Trainz I'd recommend that you hold off for a while.
T:ANE remains very much a work in progress. In fact at the moment on my PC, TS12 is a far superior simulation - in terms of both graphics and playability.
I'd really suggest you wait and see. If N3V can pull off what was promised it will be a significant step forward though, quite frankly, it may never match the wonderful graphics of TS2015.
In the meantime have you considered TS12? Over in the Trainz threads in these Forums I've posted a few videos of table-top style layouts. They can be fun to construct and operate (unless your main interest is just pounding up and down main lines, watching the scenery flash past).

Edit:
Interesting. All my threads are locked. Have I been a really bad boy?

All threads get locked after a certain date. Probably read the FAQs on here.

Hi Trev --
Thanks. But just scan down the list here:

nineercharlie has certainly been singled out for special treatment.

Probably ask why in the Site Admin Query's forum if you want to.

Did you consider that it may simply be that you're the most (possibly only...) active poster in that area?nineercharlie wrote:nineercharlie has certainly been singled out for special treatment.
