Steam Holiday Sale - Live!

Post by bGriff »

Steam has gone live with it's holiday sale. Discounts across DTG's range, including 80% off Flight Sim.

Hm... I already own FSX Gold, would there be any advantage to getting the STEAM version?

Steam seems to have crashed for me. Can't get it to open up nor can I get the support page opened up on the web browser.

I'd give it a couple of hours. Half the modern world will be trying to access the site at the moment. It always falls over during the first few hours of a major sale.

Steam's been solid as a rock here, even since the sale began - still up and running fine now...

Yes - working OK here on the Costa Solent.

Writing my wish list now. 'Dear Santa, I have been a very good boy all year.......

Stocked up on a few route deals in the last sale - so maybe will focus on the rolling stock this time round

.......unless of course there are some further reductions in flash sales as we work through the holidays.

Will watch with interest.

Regards

If you're anything like me, then you'll have spent several years getting FSX just the way you want it to be. I'd be exceptionally wary of letting Steam anywhere near it.

Going to cave in after all this time and get WloS, It's not my preferred era but I could go BR Green Diesel to BR Blue transition years and remove any kettles - and it was Sir Keith who made the route so it's going to be top quality standard.

It's amazing and still suits running even 80's era blue/grey with a little imagination ;)

Read this.

Specifically, this:
"PLEASE NOTE

Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition (FSX: Steam Edition) is functionally similar to the boxed version of Microsoft Flight Simulator X (MSFSX). We have worked extensively with third party developers to make sure the two products can work alongside each other, however due to the wide range of add-on products available for MSFSX, we cannot guarantee that your existing content will work with Microsoft Flight Simulator X Steam Edition.

If you already have MSFSX installed on your PC and are concerned about running the two games alongside each other, you may wish to consider installing FSX: Steam Edition on a separate PC.

If you already have MSFSX and add-ons installed they will only be accessible through your existing installation. They will not be duplicated across the original edition and Steam Edition of the simulator."

So, this definitely isn't coming anywhere near my system.

Now, back on topic for this forum...
I'm quite tempted by the Revelstoke-Lake Louise route, but feel I'd get more VFM out of the Jinty, the Q1, the 14xx, Small Prairies and maybe even the Riviera Line :)

i have the boxed version of FSX and gave up with it as was really unstable and prone to crashing to desktop

The game engine has probably been a little tweaked for compatibility (and it adds Win8.1 support too) - You have to remember that this was originally released 8 years ago now - literally a month before Windows Vista..!

Was hoping that South London Network was 40-50% rather than 33% off. Do we think it the sort of thing to come up in a Flash Sale as I might wait a bit? Also, wondering if Get Games usually have a Christmas Sale as they have South London Network as well?
