Side of Track View or indeed Track Side View
I was bobbing about Creative Rail's ECML when a question occured to me which is, when selecting track side view, what determines whether you get a true track side view or an above track view? Is it the amount of trackside space or are their ways of changing the type of view you get?
Cheers,
Andy

Re: Side of Track View or indeed Track Side View
Hi Andy
I have to admit that I've always wondered about that. I'm not a huge fan of the aerial view but really like the trackside one, so I tend to keep toggling between views until I get the trackside one.
I'm also keen to know if this is a feature that can be "tweaked"...

I am pretty sure you need enough clear ground at the side if the track, if there is not ie because foliage or trees are next to the trackside then the sim does an overhead view.

I was thinking that, it's just on some routes you get almost exclusively overhead shots.......................and I know.......... I should be in the cab to drivemsmith4000 wrote:I am pretty sure you need enough clear ground at the side if the track, if there is not ie because foliage or trees are next to the trackside then the sim does an overhead view.

If you go to here
Kuju\RailSimulatorCore\Cameras\TrackSideCamera001.bin
You'll see some parameters that effect the camera height.
It's been possible (possibly since TS2014?) to set custom camera blueprints per route in the route template file (the West Somerset does this).

That's great, thanks for that I will hopefully get time to have a look at that shortly.scefhwil wrote:If you go to here

If you don't want to 'tweak' anything, pressing 8 after 4 allows you to move the viewpoint to anywhere you want, usually with plenty of time before the train passes.ashgray wrote:Hi Andy

Thats what I do. I also setup my loco external view (button 2) so that it is well ahead of the loco and either left or right of loco then press 8 to "release" the camera then wait for the train to pass, tweaking camera position as I wait.. You have more control of were the camera will be when your train passes.alanch wrote:If you don't want to 'tweak' anything, pressing 8 after 4 allows you to move the viewpoint to anywhere you want, usually with plenty of time before the train passes.ashgray wrote:Hi Andy

You can also pause the game in the free camera mode (button
but still move the camera, which is great for screenshots, allowing you to position the camera to taste, but not miss the train you want to capture.
Expanding the TS wagon fleet.

This also works for centre mouse wheel zooming in and out - really helps when you're running the sim at 3FPS trying to take ridiculously high resolution screenshots!749006 wrote:Learn't something new today - Thanksmalkymackay wrote:You can also pause the game in the free camera mode (buttonbut still move the camera, which is great for screenshots, allowing you to position the camera to taste, but not miss the train you want to capture.
