Steam market place

Post by J1o2h3n4 »

Hi all,
noticed lately that some scenario authors are specifying Steam Market place items, as being required to run the activity.
Being a complete novice on this aspect of shopping, and having spent 2-3 hours perusing the Steam forums.
Still no wiser on how to to first of see whats on offer and next select and purchase the items.

Is there a dummy's guide on this anywhere?

Hi John

The marketplace items store you can only access through the in-game Main Menu as follows:

In the Main Menu, click 'Profile' > In the right top corner you click on 'Store' > Click the 'Marketplace' tab and you see all available items with price > Select an item by clicking on the cart symbol and so forth. For some reason I see several items with a sort of 'no parking' sign. These items are probably (temporarily) unavailable.

Hope this helps

Hi Jos,

The market tab is greyed out on my version of Railworks. I think this is due to the resolution I'm using which is 4320 x 900 Full screen across three 19" monitors'
I did reduce this the other day, in an attempt to capture some screen shots. But when it booted up it was so small I couldn't make out anything. It took me all afternoon doing poke and hope on the settings page to finally be able to see the menu items and get back to normal. No wish to repeat that exercise again.

Hi John

Make sure that you are in the 'Store' area. The tabs set-ups in your 'Profile' area and the 'Store' area are very similar. If you do not own any marketplace items yet, which I assume is the case, I can imagine that the tab is grayed out in the 'Profile' area. In the 'Store' area however the tab should be active. So once you are in the 'Profile' area click 'Store' first, then click on the Marketplace tab.
Btw the tabs as they are look very 'grayed out' but in fact they are not.

OK,
so to make sure we're both singing from the same Hymn sheet. I've managed to get some screenshots of the tabs and what I see on clicking them.
Had exactly the same resolution problem again - must be a way of storing these resolutions or making a default one.

Hi John

I think I have found the solution to the problem. Looking at your screenshots it appears that you are playing the game in 'offline' mode. When playing offline the store is not available and 'Store' does not appear in the right upper corner.

See my screenshots here: http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/228 ... 40B2A6EA4/ and http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/228 ... 92C118A48/
This you should see when you are 'online'.

Check if you are offline by going in the Steam opening screen (not the sim) and click 'Steam' in the upper left corner. In the list that appears the second line reads 'go online' when you are offline and 'go offline' when you are online. Click on 'go online' and reopen the sim. The Store should now be available.

I normally get them off the Steam Store site.
On the store page type in "dovetail" in the search the store box.
This will take you to the store pages with all the market place add ons!

Hi John

I always put 'Railsimulator' in the search box and then the marketplace items do not show. I would never think of putting 'dovetail' in there. Good to know (thanks rcetank). Apparently Dovetail Games is the publisher of the marketplace items and not RailSimulator.com. Still strange that 'Store' does not show on the Main Menu screen on your installation. Anyway, you are good to go now.
