Shattered Glass Effect

Post by tagsdm »

Hello Everyone,

Hope I'm in the right area for this, but does anyone know what causes this "shattered glass" effect? I've had for ages now and am just curious. Varying patterns flash for an instant or may not occur at all. Took forever to get a screen shot!!

Many Thanks Once Again!!

Almost certain it's a graphics card problem I had it too a long time ago.
See if you card's drivers are up-to-date.
If they are check card settings, if it's an AMD card make sure a box is ticked called Use game settings.
Also can be lack of memory on the card if you have something else intensive running, e.g. heavy screen saver

I'd check the air flow over the card, and out of the case too. A blocked outlet could be causing a wee bit of localised over-heating, which can cause all sorts of odd effects.

Could be either corrupted 3d shape files (geopcdx), too hot GPU/ VRAM, faulty VRAM, gpu driver bug.

I'm not too sure, this is rather reminiscent of an old bug where if you were playing in full screen and minimised to desktop you'd get the weird graphic effects like that when you maximised the window again.

You probably have an AMD card, I get this sometimes, it is just a single fame on 30 fps movie when I captured one. Updating drivers improved it but hasn't got rid of it yet. I think it's down to AMD to fix so may never happen. Don't get it with any other game but TS2014/15 though.

I have come across this on a number of occasions in a number of routes and it has always been a corrupt asset. In fact I had an intense version of it just yesterday where the whole screen was affected on a certain section of the London to Brighton route. This was rectified by replacing the route with a backup copy. It has also been in the old Cajon route and was caused by a section of road, which once deleted and relayed was fine after.

These AMD card glitches are gone in a blink of the eye and can occur at any point on any route it seems. They don't stay there, it's just a flicker and gone. This is an example I captured. It's important to know that this was one frame of a 30 fps movie. The frame before and the frame after were normal. It's nothing to do with Fraps either, a movie is the only sure way of capturing these really, you cant save a screen, you dont have time.

Not for me they aren't - I find its usually a good idea to save at that point, and restart as quite often they preceed a crash and dump, and even without that they spoil the illusion. I used to think they were caused by faulty assets, but I now think it may be caused by glitches in data transmission to my graphics card. The card itself appears to be working normally when this happens - at least, GPU-Z doesn't see any problems with the load or temperatures. Often they seem to happen when available memory drops below about 0.75Gb.

I'm still running Win XP on an old Dell Dimension 9150 with a dual core Pentium D 3.0 GHz, 4Gb of memory and an ATI Radeon HD 5570. Once I've had my office rebuilt I'll treat myself to a decent computer.

Are you using a re-skin? I had this on reskins of the class 170 which was caused by the original geoPcDx being changed by an update and the reskins using the old one, if it is a reskin try copying the geopcdx file from the default one into the skin folder.

Wasn't there an issue with anti aliasing with the ati control centre, a certain type used to cause issues if I recall, been such a long time since I've seen this sort of issue.

Thanks everyone. I do have an AMD card and I think it may be the problem. Happens with re-skins any route even in scenario editor. I don't have it in any other game or app and can still use TS15, it's just a flicker then gone and may or may not come back. I'll check card settings as soon as my wife stops inventing work for the weekend!!!

Many Thanks,

When I had my old (very old) PC, I used to get these when I was running out of VRAM. Usually shortly followed by an SBHH.
