Questions about JT add-ons

I am almost hypnotized by some of the Just Trains products. I am substantially inclined to buy some of their stuff, particularly the stuff on sale. However, I have never owned ANY 3rd party software, so I have a couple of basic questions that I am hoping my forum friends will be kind enough to answer.

Specifically: 1) Can just trains scenarios be "modified" as DTG can using RW Tools? That is may I make equipment substitutions. 2) Can I use JT equipment, again using RW Tools in my DTG scenarios.

And finally 3) I really like the SECML, but am leaning toward the Marsdonshire - neither of which is on sale. I read "somewhere" that Marsdonshire was "broken" originally, but believe that it is now fixed. Can anyone shed any light on that? If I buy the Marsdonshire, I can get the "required" 67 Advanced for a mere $8, because for this weekend it is on sale. However, If I get the SECML (not on sale) I can get the Voyager 220/221 also on sale for this weekend. They have another sale going on only this weekend for a "Newcastle to York" package at great savings.

I am a little overwhelmed, but am seeking your input/. As always, for any information I seek, I thank you in advance for your knowledge and for taking the time to answer my quest for information.

Yes to both 1 & 2. Although I have Mardonshire I well let someone from the UK answer that question.

SECML is a great route. It captures the feel of the area really well and the forth bridge pretty much speaks for itself. The default stock however is the kuju HST with national express branding and the kuju 166 turbo with scotrail branding. This will do for some, but to be more prototypical, the developer (Mully) has a series of patches to replace the 166 with the class 170 (provided you own it). What's more is that the developer has continued to support the route since it's release a few years ago by providing various upgrades and so on. The only downside for me is that the route was built before the implementation of track super elevation in ts2014, so curved track can feel tight in places when at speed.

The other route Newcastle to York modern has now been supassed by another version from the same developer. And is available for free from the steam workshop. This free and improved version features many more route miles to explore as a bonus.

I would go for SCEML it is a actual route it is a continuation of the East Coast Mainline,the sim version covers the line between Edinburgh to Dundee,the actual route goes as far as Aberdeen,the Forth Bridge is really modelled well,you almost feel that you are going over the real thing.The next sim from Just Trains will be between Edinburgh and Newcastle again part of the ECML.

Years ago there used to be a company called Europeanbahn they did some of the route for MSTS,but when they bought out route extensions they could be linked together, to give you a continuous route,a big pity it doesn't happen in TS.

Marsdonshire is a fictitious route,so just depends on what you prefer, both have pro's and cons

Marsdonshire is nice, and it tries to make a real network of trainlines, which is nice and increases scope for operations, but between SECML & Marsdonshire I would firmly choose for SECML.
The trains on Marsdonshire are mostly repainted class 166 & HST btw.

First, let me express my heartfelt thanks for the responses, and candid discussion and opinions. I didn't really know what to do. I appreciate you so much. SO this settles it - I hate to buy stuff not on sale, but I want it - you recommend it - SO SECML it is. Besides that voyager is on sale for $8. May not need it, but I can use it for use in other scenarios calling for an "electric loco - especially the Class 86 - or 87. I kind of hate them with a passion. SO I'm off to get it now. THANK YOU so much guys.

But - Voyagers are diesel multiple units, not electric locos, so you won't be able to substitute them using RW Tools - or are you talking about creating your own scenarios?

Hi Kenny,

you wont be wasting your money getting the Voyager as a couple of Scenarios that come with SECML need it,the one good thing with the Voyager being diesel is you can use it any where,It's the Pendolino that is electric.

LOL - I must be loopy. Yep it's diesel, but that's ok too. I just ran a 30 minute introductory run on the new line, using the 166. The manual references a "introductory" run to get used to the Voyager. But I can't find it. I don't own the Oxford to Paddington route, so I'm guessing I am out of luck. Is that correct? Thanks again for all the help/advice. It is appreciated.

I think you have the Oxford to Paddington route it has been renamed The Great Western Mainline. It is one of the routes included in the base game I think.

No I don't. I have WLSO, WCML Shap, and WCML N but no GWMK. Nonetheless, thanks for responding. I was able to find a tutorial on the web, watched it - THREE times, and finally got my loco moving.
