Backup Time

as nobody else has mentioned it yet, I thought I would as TS2015 is less than 2 weeks away from release it would be a good time to backup your files, I find that just copy the entire Steam folder to be the easiest method although does take some time if you have a lot of DLC, I normally do this overnight.

No need to back up the entire Steam folder. With the back up of the railworks folder is more than enough.

Hi David,
You must have a large Steam folder mine is about 62Gb and I can back mine up to an external drive in just over one hour.

I do this just in case any 3rd party routes do not work with the new version I found out that Hamburg to Breman does not work with versions later than TS2012 although I rearly ever run no UK routes as there are so many.

Backup Time should probably be this very weekend!

DTG are planning an update for Monday the 15th that will 'prepare' our installations for the BIG update on the 18th.

I would strongly recommend that you all take a complete copy of your 'Railworks' directory prior to this preparatory update, Just In Case

I can honestly say that before any of the updates since the original Railworks I have never backed up and never experienced a problem so I won't bother this time either.

It will doubtless be fine for you this time as well. So who needs backups? Well, I haven't with RS/RW/TS but in other areas of computer life I have been so, so grateful I have backed up when something has gone wrong. So I will not be cavalier about it, but simply happy when I can delete my backup after a glitch free update to TS2015.

Absolutely correct!

There are those of us that over the years have had 3rd party stuff stop working, and even 'official' DLC that disappears following these major annual upgrades. These things usually get fixed, but who want's to take a chance? It also gives you a completely functional copy of RailWorks (TS2014) that can be used for reference following the upgrade.

Anyway, my point was that the upgrade to TS2015 begins on Monday the 15th, rather than Thursday the 18th. So if you normally do take a backup, then NOW is the time.

"if you usually make a backup of the game before an update, be aware that there's a small update coming before the 'big' one so it'd be prudent for you to start the back up procedure before then. If you take a more relaxed attitude then of course this won't apply to you"

I have started my backup to an External drive but the Assets folder says 95.0 GB and time remaining about 14 hours

Unfortunately, at least in this case I have 261 GB for TS as a whole and 221 GB in assets so it's going to take a while. 23 hours and counting

Yeah, I have actually deleted my entire current install so it can start fresh when the new version comes out.

Sorry, but I feel obliged to point out that this is only a valid strategy if you've never installed any third party content such as routes, locos, stock, scenarios, modifications, etc. That includes any UKTS files from the library here.
