One of the most impressive railway journeys in Scotland, the West Highland Line... First time I did it was in 1991 when I was an impressionable 16 year old spotter/basher, mad keen on joining the railway. 37413 playing outstanding tunes from her exhaust on the Fort Bill bound beds - still have the sound recordings to make my spine tingle. And the views were spectacular too - seemingly as far down you could see was valley... and as far high you could see was mountain. Complete with twisting and turning reverse curves and challenging gradients - anything running along there had to work hard.

Wish I had been there for the McRats too... One day in TS, looks like I will be able to...

Fort Bill to Mallaig - mixed trains for the win, a couple of Mark 1s, a couple of TTA tanks for the fishing boat on the back and a single class 20 (please, one day) on the front, bonnet first... 'Oh my giddy 'ant.'

In my view, the devs have pitched this in just the right era... I really couldn't stomach trying to run this route in a Class 156. Thrash with a loco (steam or diesel), or nothing - except a Class 104 in 'Mexican Bean' livery notwithstanding. I'm really looking forward to the snow.

My fear is that we'll be inundated with Harry Potter filming special scenarios on the Steam Workshop... complete with flying cars and all that jazz (secret HP fan I confess too  )

Day 1 purchase, without a doubt...

Awesome!!

Sounds good, but the eninge just looks TOO sterile and clean! It needs to have some weathering applied, especially in the winter-version! All that snow cakes to the engine, with mud & rust, and it should look dirty, real dirty! With clumps of snow & ice hanging on to it!

Cheers,

First and only trip along the WHL was in the late 50s, I would have been about 2 or 3 years old at the time so 1958 or 59, it was steam hauled and I have just a few memories of it, It was my first away trip with just my father and we were going to Fort Bill to pick up a car.
I lived in Bonhill at the time and we caught the train at Helensburgh Upper, but most of it is hazy now. I can remember the old narrow guage line from Spean Bridge back to Ft.Bill in the 1960s, but even back then it was mostly disused. As a family we used to go up the A82 from Balloch to Ft. William and then on to Arisaig a lot, and I have always wanted to go back and take a trip from Queen Street to Mallaig but not on a 156 thank you.
So I am really looking forward to seeing this route come to fruition.

Keith said on Facebook

"The next route to be released is complete - no decision has been made yet on the next route to start. There should still be time to squeeze something in before TS2016."

My money is on Preston-Crewe anyway.

If it can not use the stock we have now then I just can not afford to throw nearly 2k worth of software away and start again, money is going to be very tight from next year

Yes, fair point but there's nothing to stop you keeping TS20whatever offline and having both. I too doubt we'll be able to use all our existing goodies, but as that's all still conjecture it does seem a tad early to make any plans.

Now...back on topic....
