I don't doubt that. That said inaccurate levels could occur if microphones were not in an optimised position to accurately record high and low ends of the audio spectrum. I'm not saying that's what occurred, the point is that many, many things can and do go wrong, the same with anything.
I could take a photo and the composition could be perfect but it could also be a little bit out of focus. It would still look good, but not as good as it could be.
The AWS in this case is the focus, the overall sound is the composition. A little bit more depth of field and we'd have the perfect audio canvas.
