A 'TrainStore' like utility for TS2014

Just to answer a few questions.

1. When you store all the Content\Routes folder, they are stored in Railworks\StoreC similarly Assets are stored in StoreA -

2. Sorry about the screen size, I thought that everyone with TS2014 would be using wide screens, I have mine on dual 27" monitors. I will try repositioning the buttons under the panels. I just don't have any old monitors to test it with these days.

3. Also to answer a query I received via email - There is no need to tick all the boxes to Store All, when these buttons are pressed, all items are automatically taken as being selected.

Ah Ha, that answers my question as to where the routes and assets are stored.Thanks Mike. I was testing earlier this morning by storing just one route and noticed by checking with RWTools that the route had been removed from the Check routes and scenarios listing and had been removed from the Railworks/Content folder,but I could not find where they had been removed to.Now I know where to look. One thing that kept happening though, is that when I select the Restore Selected tab, after a short while I kept getting the message "program not responding" however once I shut down Store Them and restart it,the route I was restoring back had been restored. A wee bug perhaps ?

Other than that, its a great addition for storing.

Hi Mike,

Just a small bug report. If you click on the 'List all .ap files' tab more than once in a session, the .ap files get repeated as many times as you have clicked on that tab. It is necessary to exit the program completely to reset the list.

And for those who still possess the 'antediluvian' 4:3 monitors, Would not it be easier to incorporate a horizontal scroll bar?

Because I downloaded the latest program version (1.0.21, with buttons on the bottom), and the program still does not show them.
Sorry, but with the current crisis I can not afford me to buy a new 16:9 monitor.

I will dig out my old laptop and see what I can do for small screen users. I can also reduce the height of the columns which might help.

You can't please all of the users all of the time.

Hello,

I download, install and test your new program.

It works well, but I have some assets on another disk, with "Windows Symbolic Link", they are virtually in the main "Assets" folder.

Your program have stored them without problem to "StoreA" folder. But when I want to restore a route, these assets are not "Ticked" for restore. And if I want manually to restore an asset folder in Symbolic Link, it doesn't restore it. I have to restore it manually, in the main "Assets" folder, but I lost the Symbolic Link attribute, and I restored the real datas.

Just a few comments.

1. Using Assets via symbolic links - my program was never designed with those in mind, and I doubt that it will ever correctly handle them.

2. Screen size - I ran the program on my ancient Toshiba laptop with a 1280x800 15" screen and it displayed correctly with all of the buttons, so if users can't fit it on their screen, it is possibly because they are using a larger than default font size.

3. Currently the program goes through ALL of the scenarios for each route checking for the Provider/Product of each rolling stock item. This is OK for UK routes with short trains, however it is impossible to work on routes like Donner Pass with trains having 100 wagons and there being over 50 scenarios. It just takes too long to scan all these items. I am re-thinking this bit.

I set the resolution of my 15-inch monitor at 1152 x 864 and I can already see the buttons.

However that is not the native resolution of my monitor. The native resolution of my monitor is 1024 x 768.

Further to my earlier posting, I have put a new version v1.0.24 on my site in which I have completely rewritten the 'Store Routes/Restore selected Route' code. Previously this was very slow on routes with a lot of scenarios, now it is virtually instantaneous. Once you click on the 'Restore selected route' button the program selects all Assets needed to run the route including assets in all scenarios and restores all of these Assets for you.

I hope this proves a lot better/faster.

Just updated mine to v1.0.24 and yes it was almost instantaneous in loading and I have over 120 routes and not to mention how many scenarios on each. A thought has come to mind with regard to the two storage folders "Store A & Store C" that are placed within the Railworks folder by Store Them. I was wondering, Is it not possible to have these two folders residing outside of the RailWorks hierarchy ,eg on a different Hard Drive and in the options menu,be able to set the paths to them ? thus reducing the size of the ever increasing TS2014. Of course this may not be possible,but no harm in asking.

Another thing, If you find that you are spending much time on tweaking & updating this and it ends up as being as popular and complex as your RWTools, I for one would not mind should you decide to start charging for it and would gladly contribute.

If Mike did this and you selected a different partition or drive from the Railworks folder, all the files would have to be physically moved each time, rather than just renamed in the file table, and that would inevitably make the operations much, much slower.

I think it would be a good idea to have this option to optionally move the assets on another drive, when you haven't enough space available on the Railworks drive. I have a 256 Gb SSD with Windows and Railworks, and my assets folder is more than 125 Gb. That's why I used "Windows Symbolic Link" to split my assets folder between two physical drives.

True, but I would very much appreciate a way to reduce the size of the simulator on my hard drive. I wonder - could this be made a option:

1. Store in Railworks folder.
2. Sore in a seperate drive.
