Dovetail Games Sale

Post by HarryHill1975 »

Whats going on with DTG, at the minute there posting offers all over Facebook of the 33% off sale, there is 2 occasions now ive spotted false advertising, yesterday the poseted a pic of the Class 92 with all the 33% off wording, now this morning they have posted the same pic but used the Class 91, both of these locos are NOT in the sale price, yes i understand it says "on selected products" this is like a car dealership putting the picture on the window of a Porsche 911 "33% off" then getting inside and it's only on a reliant robin, i have commented on this on Facebook and told DTG to explain themselves, but as another comment clearly put it, there probably too busy counting the ££££££

Yeah probably  I am sure they are all sunning themselves on the Cayman Islands as we speak!!

If you are so bothered why don't you report them to the ASA  ?!

Dovetail Games Sale

Post by secludedsfx »

Thing you have to remember is that these products might have meant to be on sale but an issue steam wise could have caused them not to be (has happened before with certain sale items) and as it's the weekend no one is in DTG's office to resolve the issue.

I think the point being made is that regardless of whether anybody is monitoring the DTG FB page they appear to be indulging in what could be classed as misleading advertising, they aren't making it clear that the item pictured is not in the sale. IMO the e-mail they sent out certainly is misleading. Basically you can't advertise something as reduced price and then charge full price at point of sale. Regardless of whether it is deliberate or accidental it is a big concern that a company like DTG would get into this position, normally their FB page is monitored at the weekend. I doubt anybody here would complain to the ASA, but at least one person on FB claims to have done so, and if they have I don't think it will be a good thing if DT end up getting fined. At best they have shot themselves in the foot with this one publicity wise, a lot of complaints on FB.

IMO, to illustrate those sale adverts with pictures of products that do not feature in the sales not once, not twice but at least 3 times (91, 92 and M8 are those that I recall seeing) is at best, incompetent.

Perhaps the original intention was to feature all DLC with a discount. One of the FB commentors has shown a picture that appears to show publicity from DTG saying something along the lines of "33% off all content". If they have changed their mind regarding that offer (as their Terms and Conditions seem to allow), it is reasonable to expect them to alter their promotional material.

Cheers!

Have you checked the actual prices from within Steam, or checked the "Store" from within the TS2014 main menu?
All of the content seems to be reduced as advertised (at the point of purchase), but I think the prices shown in the DTG main website are incorrect.

Everything I checked was actually reduced, despite what the shown price on DTG was.

I see that they have removed the references to a sale & the comments off their FB page.
Usual tactic of theirs if they do not like a comment!

Thye still show in your timeline, and they can't remove the e-mails they sent out. I will be interested to see how they deal with this.

To follow up on this, I received a response from the ASA this afternoon:

"Your complaint to the ASA ref A14-268400: Thank you for contacting us at the Advertising Standards Authority. We thought you made a valid point so contacted the advertisers who gave us their assurance that future marketing communications will not state “all” if only selected products are on offer, and that only images of products which are included in the promotion are shown in the marketing communications. On the basis of their assurance we’ll close our file.

Basic details will appear on our website, http://www.asa.org.uk. Thank you for taking the time to raise your concerns with us."
