Brakes of JT Voyager Adv seems have a low braking force

Post by JLD95 »

Hi,

is it normal for Voyager to have a low braking force ? The JT simulation is like in real life on this point ?

I believe that the brakes on the Advanced Voyager are too weak and don't appear to meet the requirements of the relevant Railway Group Standard (http://www.rgsonline.co.uk/Railway_Grou ... ss%204.pdf). There has been intermittent discussion of the Advanced Voyager's braking performance on this forum, someone may even have posted a fix.

OK, thank you for this fix.

This fix is applied on Assets\JustTrains\Voyager\RailVehicles\Diesel\221\Default\Simulation\a25_221_engine_simulation.bin.

Code: Select all

MaxForcePercentOfVehicleWeight: before 70 -> after 109
MaxForce: before 55 -> after 85
StartupTime: before 9 -> after 15
ShutdownTime: before 4 -> after 15
MaxContinuousForce: before 50 -> after 78
MaxRpmChangePerSecond: before 100 -> after 63
And for this file, a fix should be applied ? Assets\JustTrains\Voyager\RailVehicles\Diesel\220\Default\Simulation\a25_220_engine_simulation.bin ?

Thanks, I'd downloaded it when it was released but had forgotten about it!

After installing it I get the error shown in the attachment when I try to load the JT AD Voyager – Summer Saturday Service scenario for Bristol to Exeter. The error refers to the player train and if I revert to the original simulation file the scenario loads without error. A search here hasn't thrown up any similar reports so can anyone suggest a fix, other than reverting to the original .bin file?

Other Voyager scenarios I've tried so far work fine with the mod in place.

Hi, this is probably a silly question, but did you delete the relevant blueprints.pak file between each swap?

Not a silly question at all, it's a step often overlooked, but yes I did. Having just looked at JLD95's post above it seems that the performance of the 221 might have been increased as well as the brake being given more bite, perhaps that's causing the dispatcher problems with conflicts with AI that don't exist with the default version. I'll re-edit the simulation file so that only the braking is altered and see if that sorts it. Watch this space.

I haven't tried this scenario myself, but it looks like upon installing the mod, you have thrown the timings of the player train out of place. This seems to have now caused a 'clash' with one or more AI services which share the same track at some point. You could try sending the scenario author a PM to see if he can give you specific hints to resolve the issue. Most likely that it may be a passenger service clashing with your train around Bristol or Taunton, or similarly a freight service entering a loop somewhere along the line.

Reverting all the changed values except "MaxForcePercentOfVehicleWeight" to the original values made no difference, the same error occurred when loading the scenario. I then changed the "MaxForcePercentOfVehicleWeight" back to its original value and the scenario loaded, not really a surprise as I'd effectively restored the original simulation file. It seems that the changed performance due only to the increased brake force is enough to break this scenario.

Hi,

and for the file Assets\JustTrains\Voyager\RailVehicles\Diesel\220\Default\Simulation\a25_220_engine_simulation.bin

should modify this file also ?

It would make sense to modify the Class 220 file as well, both Voyager types have the same braking capability in reality.

OK AndyUK for Class220.

A JT Official patch is it previous to fix brakes and scenarios ?

No you don't need to modify that file to alter the brakes on the 220, the 220 uses the brake settings from the 221 simulation file, not sure why.

Also, regarding the braking performance, when applying the brakes on high, not emergency, when travelling above 60 mph results in very low braking performance, approx 40% according to the break pressure dial, this raises to around 70% as soon as the speed hits 60mph resulting in much better braking, I'd be surprised if this is how the real unit performs under braking, it would take an age to stop from 120 mph! I've had a look at the simulation file to try & adjust this so the high brake performance is achieved at higher speeds than 60mph but had no luck.

Ive downloaded the patch from the library.
From 100mph it takes just over a minute to stop on 100% brake
Ive edited a bit more and got it down to 36-40 seconds (with no wheelslip)

Whether that is now too much I don't know but it does feel better
