Mid East Plus frame rates

Mid East Plus frame rates
If I run an activity in MSTS, namely one from the Maple Leaf Tracks Cascade Crossing I get frame rates of between 45 to 60.
If I run any activity in MEP I start at 7 fps and it doesn't get any better.

MidEast Plus is a resource hungry route and certain of the tiles are at scenery / object overload point.
What is the spec of your machine and what operating system are you using.
This is the post that was made on the front page of the website about minimum specs and what to expect on frame rates - http://www.uktrainsim.com/index2.php?fo ... eport=1754

Peter,
Thanks for replying so quickly; I didn't have much of a problem when I ran the route using Windows XP SP3, but since the change to Win 7 there is that problem. Same graphics card as before, but better RAM than before.
Curiously, Train Simulator 14 has actually improved since the changeover.

Re: Mid East Plus frame rates
Have "upgraded" to Windows 7, ie overwritten XP SP3 or have completed a fresh WIn 7 install.
What I am looking to identify is if the registry entries for MSTS have changed due to upgrade / fresh install.

Re: Mid East Plus frame rates
sorry, I should have been more specific; it is a fresh install of Windows 7 on a new hard drive.

Re: Mid East Plus frame rates
Hi did you read the section about installing MSTS under Vista/win7/8? It sounds as though you need to run mprofile to update MSTS so it knows what your system has got.
Re: Mid East Plus frame rates
Forgive my ignorance about mprofile; although I can easily find the icon all that happens is that mprofile flickers briefly into life and then disappears.

Hi enterprise1,
That's all it does, mate
In effect, it updates the MDRIVERS.DAT file; although the data in that file doesn't seem to match modern components, MSTS doesn't seem to mind!
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Mid East Plus frame rates
Are you running the original MSTS installation from another drive or have you done a fresh install of MSTS.enterprise1 wrote:sorry, I should have been more specific; it is a fresh install of Windows 7 on a new hard drive.
If it is a fresh install, did you follow the Windows 7 / Windows 8 recommendations and the resolution of issues explained in this thread http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 3&t=136888
As Ged has stated the mprofile application only lasts a couple of seconds and is intended to update the mdrivers.dat file based on the hardware configuration it finds.
Re: Mid East Plus frame rates
It is a fresh install of MSTS; as I said earlier MLT's Cascade Crossing returns a frame rate of between 45 to 60.
Whilst I appreciate that Cascades Crossing doesn't have the amount of detail as MEP, I would have thought that I could get a working frame rate.
Ran mprofile; didn't improve MEP at all.

Re: Mid East Plus frame rates
Hi,
in an earlier post, Peter asked for the specification of your PC, but you don't seem to have given it, yet.
Are you running MSTS from an internal or external hard drive?
Also, are you using the mem switch when running MSTS? It may be entered in the "Filter options for Train.exe" box on the main Mini-Loader screen; it should be half of your available memory (RAM), but not exceed 2048. The entry in the box should be something like : -mem:1024
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Mid East Plus frame rates
My specs have been marginally improved by having my PC upgraded to accommodate Win 7; before the change to Win 7 I never had a problem.(Come back XP, all is forgiven!).slipperman12 wrote:Hi,

I've tried it on internal and external hard drives.slipperman12 wrote:Are you running MSTS from an internal or external hard drive?
Tried mem switch value; nothing.slipperman12 wrote:Also, are you using the mem switch when running MSTS? Re: Mid East Plus frame rates
Hi enterprise1,
Sorry, mate, but you've still not given the specs of your PC!! Apologies if I've missed them.
You MUST have noticed a difference between using external and internal drives! Although this depends on your PC specs!
Again, if you only have a small amount of memory, the mem switch won't help, but I would have thought you'd have at least 2GB in order to run Win 7 acceptably.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Mid East Plus frame rates
Ged,
I've never posted my specs, basically because I have been quite happy with my PC's performance. At first, with TS2014 there were some slow running issues, and some very slight pauses during running a train, but under Win 7 all these have disappeared.
Regarding MSTS, I was happy with its performance in XP; all of the MLT routes performed OK, as did the built in content.
After the rebuild of my PC to take Win 7, which comprised of increased RAM, existing graphics card, new hard drive and Windows 7 install I have followed advice about MSTS but I still don't figure it.
What specs do you want me to post; I've not had to do this on any forum so I'm not sure what info is required.

Re: Mid East Plus frame rates
Hi enterprise1,
When users report that they are having problems running XYZ, we don't know the details of the PC it's running on, so knowing its specification is a good starting point. It won't necessarily answer the problem, but you may find someone who is running a very similar setup and has had similar problems; on the other hand, they might not have the problem, but can offer some tips. Don't forget that we're all working "blind" and in order to offer any help, need to know as much as possible.
The information which is helpful is : CPU type and speed, amount of memory (RAM), graphics card. You are running Windows 7 - is MSTS installed according to the Steam4Me tutorial? on an internal or external drive? Are you running MEP as a Mini-Route (as supplied)?
You said you were happy with the performance of MSTS on your XP PC - did that include running MEP?
Commercial routes, like MLT Cascades Crossing, are designed to run on as wide a range of configurations of PCs as possible, so are nothing like MEP in size and complexity.
Cheers,
Ged
