Post by PGH60 »

Must be a hot day it's actually got all 4 doors open,

There is no problem with activity it's self, the activity still works with out any problems, you will probably find all activities with this loco will have the doors open, but how to fix it I haven't a clue, you will have to either fiddle around with the shape or texture file and possibly the eng file, some thing i wouldn't recommend if you don't know what you are doing.

Hi.
46035 also exsists in the Uk file library, The version UK 6414 appears to have its doors closed but it does date back to 15th August 2003.
I would imagine the 46 that came with MEP is a better version.

Hi Peter

It isn't a 'problem' - it is inherent in the model ( *.s file). The same is true of the Class 44 and the 45s.

But if it's a problem, it can be overcome by painting in the doors on the 46035_1.ace file and altering the alpha channel to solid behind the new doors. It doesn't quite do the trick because the open doors remain visible from certain angles, and rectifying this by changing the alpha channel on 46035_3.ace causes other problems.

A better 'fix' is to manually edit the appropriate point parameters in the *.s file to close the doors (dangerous if you are not confident, but doable - it has taken me about 20 minutes to track down the relevant parameters and alter them).

Otherwise, don't use a Peak in rain or in winter.

Hi,sorry about saying there was a problem with the activity.I think i will leave well alone with the loco itself, as i will make a complete mess of things. Thanks for the replies.Peter.

Hi Peter,

All of the "Peaks" (class 44/45/46) in the MEP stock pack were kindly donated by Chris Baily of the Class 15 Preservation society. http://www.d8233.org.uk/about.htm

He produced a donationware disc with far more models than are in the MEP pack. The original models all had open doors (at least they did on the copy of that disc they came from) and although it looks odd in some weathers ....well that's just a limitation of any Sim. The real World changes by the minute and even in FSX (not much younger than MSTS in fact) they achieved changing weather. Sadly the girls in Summer Frocks on platforms are still there come rain or shine?

Although Peaks came on to the East Coast routes they were mainly more Midland based. However we researched old film of the ECML when putting together the stock pack and they show up in cross country routes that venture onto "Eastern" metals and I've footage of them hauling passenger trains out of Kings Cross too. 40's, 55's and 47's were the mainstay of the ECML long haul and 31's handled most of the local stuff.

The idea behind the large stock pack was to provide as much of the prototypical stock that operated on these routes over the 20 year period the route represents. We hoped that folk would create even more activities using the stock pack because there is so much there you need look no further.

However.... So far the enthusiasm in this direction has been for earlier eras and as the stock is customised to work together correctly with other stock in the stock pack this seems to have caused some confusion. The reason this route took so long to produce was down to a huge amount of attention to detail. Mick tweaked just about ALL the physics files to make stuff work as it should. Introducing stock from the download library will possibly cause problems unless the item is modified with copies of an equivalent in the MEP stock pack. With the possible combinations of stock, traffic and services that the stock pack allows I'd suggest that there are several thousand possibilities right there on the disc before anyone starts complicating things by introducing "foreign" stock.

A downside of the development time was that since the stock pack was selected, permissions sought, activities written and meticulously tested, physics tweaked after reported performance problems etc.etc. ...there have been newer models uploaded of several items of stock. When you develop something to this degree you have to draw a line somewhere and say "This is what we're going with!"

??? Sadly ??? I don't understand.

More seriously, I am glad the Peaks were included - I recall seeing them and they are my favourite diesel of the era.

Also - there is no need for anyone to apologise for the inevitable results of a long gestation period for this project. It is a fabulous addition to MSTS - far better than any commercial add-on I have bought. I dread to think what it would need to cost even if all those involved only charged their time to the project.
