WLOS - SALE from STEAM

I just picked up WLOS for 25% off. Finally! This route was so highly recommended by many people on this forum. Now, if I can just get them to put Settle- Carlisle on sale, I'll be good-to-go. If you are interested, the sale lasts for a week - until May 5, and apparently started only today.

Good deal if you can't wait until the next 50% off sale, and definitely the most visually appealing of all available routes as far as I am concerned. Luckily Mr Ross uploaded a bunch of diesel scenarios to the Workshop so even Neanderthals like me can use it

Its a gorgeous route and so many Scenarios for it on the Steam Workshop,IMHO its the best route yet.

WOW - Thanks for the replies and the positive feedback on the route. Although it has been roughly 8 hrs. since I downloaded it, I am no going to run my first route. I did however download 19 diesel scenarios (for this route) from the workshop. I plan to alternate between steam and diesel. Again, THANK YOU ALL for your feedback. If you get a second, do you have any feedback on Settle-to Carlisle. Very likely that will be my next download, but not for at least a week. If you have any feedback on any "overseas" route (I am in US and WLOS is my first "offshore" route) - Let me know. I do not like Electric trains, and TRY to avoid those with a combined throttle. I look forward to your feedback.

Just an update (like anyone really cares) - but just in case you are wondering. I did the first provided scenario, steam train, called AYR Line. I did OK, but I can se that I have an awful lot to learn about driving this train. I have read and re-read the manual. The signaling is also foreign to me, but again I have the pages printed out right in front of me. And you guys are certainly correct - the scenery I have seen (one scenario!) is FANTASTIC.

We knew you wouldn't be disappointed lad! It is a very well made route. S&C is a nice route but not as involving as the WLOS with it's scope for differing scenario's.

S&C is a bit of an "end to end" route, nice enough though. Hang on til a 50% off turns up for that one I'd say

One thing in favour of S&C is that there is a Workshop version of the route that takes it back to 1975 but also extends the line to Skipton, something I think the original should have done.

WLOS is a great piece of work. Well worth getting from the sale if you are even slightly interested in historic routes.

The area around Carlisle in particular is a deeply impressive.

Incidentally, whilst we are on the subject, can anyone point to any decent timetables or working timetables of the area in question?

Once you have had a little practice with the steam locos you can get an "enhanced" experience with Steam Sounds Supreme enhancement packs that do wonders for the control and the sounds of the kettles, you can find them here http://www.steamsoundssupreme.com/

Thanks for the replies. The "sounds" packages are a good consideration - but I am totally unfamiliar. Do you buy them for a specific engine, specific route, or what? And how do you pay for them? When I did some preliminary "clicking", it said something about PayPal - but I do not have PayPal. Do they take credit cards? Is there one or two that you would recommend?

I'm a yank as well but have a number of the UK routes. Keith's routes are my favorites. I'd get the WCML North by him if you don't have that yet. You can do freight or steam on it if you aren't into electric, but the electric locos are fun. Woodhead is another immersive and interesting route.

One other I very particularly like is the Cina Clay for Export route by Creative Rail. Just beautiful, and quite interesting to run. It and WLOS are my two favorites.

You only need PayPal to receive money not to buy things.
When you click on the PayPal link it askes you to put a Credit or Debit Card number in.
You pay the same price shown on the webpage and you get an e-mail to tell you the transaction went thru.
