Recently I have found that whilst driving Train Sim 2014 the screen freezes momentarily so you get a slight lagged / juddering affect. Seems to occur on all routes. I don't recall this happening in the past.
I am just wondering whether I need to tinker with the graphic settings if so can anybody give me some recommendations as to what graphic settings to change? I am assuming to stop the juddering happening that the graphic settings is the answer however if anybody has any other suggestions please let me know.
My PC is as follows which I think is a reasonably high spec to get good quality performance / graphics from Train Sim 14 however any comments / advice on this would be appreciated.
Dell XPS 8500
Intel I7 3770 CPU @3.4 GHZ Processor
NVidia GE Force GT640
8GB Ram
148GB used (with 772 GB still available) on hard drive so this is not being overworked

Re: Graphic settings
It's the 'Tile Load' issue... (the next 1 kilometre square area of the map loading in)
It got noticeably worse in the TS2014 upgrade
No amount of messing with graphics setting will solve it

Why couldn't the steam loco sit down? - Because he had a tender behind.
Re: Graphic settings
This seems to happen when ts2014 loads up new scenery tiles. It may be that your hard drive needs defragmented. Your system seems capable of running the sim, so perhaps it is windows doing something in the background or updating something.
As a last resort you could try disabling the steam in game overly and turning the AA down a bit.

Re: Graphic settings
I have a problem where the track is redrawn about two or three coach lengths in front of the loco as you drive along.
Is there a setting I can change to prevent this or stop it altogether ?
Thanks
Peter

Re: Graphic settings
I have found that the latest Nvidia Driver has smothed this out a bit,not totally but it is better.

Re: Graphic settings
Its a little more complex than just tile boundaries.
It also depends on VRAM and monitor size and memory bandwidth, cpu, driver and graphics settings amongst other things.
The OP's GT640 has a memory bandwidth of <30 Gb/sec and the recommended for TS 2014 is 60GB/sec and that can cause a stutter as the card can't load the images from the cpu fast enough. The card also uses GDDR3 VRAM and not the faster GDDR5 so that's another factor.
With VRAM - say using a 1920 x 1200 monitor TS 2014 with TSX off uses up to 900MB - and with TSX ON up to 1.5GB of VRAM can be used - hence not enough VRAM - you get stutters.
Finally if the cpu is "weak" (not in this case) that can also give rise to stutters as can in game graphics settings.
The only "bad" tile stutter I see these days is on the NEC a few miles out of Philadelphia at the 50mph limit approaching Slopes, Shapes or similar name corner.

Re: Graphic settings
I get 'juddering' and it is not relevant to certain locations as I can pass the through the same areas without 'juddering'. Also I have noticed that this can happen in areas without much scenery/ rolling stock density, the flip side being that I can enjoy smooth gameplay approaching high density areas! On my older PC I don't get juddering but I do get a slideshow approaching high density areas which renders the sim unplayable at that point.
I would love to know if there is any advice for settings for those of us with higher end cards to get the best out of TS2014. My system : Clock 770MHZ Core i7 4771 350GHZ 16GB RAM
AMD Radeon R9 200 series 500GB SSD Viewed on ASUS VG278HE 27" LCD Monitor. All TS2014 settings on Highest. I have tried limiting the FPS to 30/40 & 60 to no avail.

Re: Graphic settings
Sadly the advice is to go nvidia.
I've changed to nvidia recently and it's not just that my fps are higher now (the card is more powerful than my old amd of course), but also in places where I do not get particularly high fps (even below 30) the gameplay is much smoother...
