Steam connection problem and workshop downloads.

Post by chriscooper »

2 things. Firstly, is anyone else having problems connecting to steam at the moment? It keeps saying their is no connection despite the fact that there is. Have managed to get it on once (after a few tries), but that restarted steam for something and now it won't connect despite many attempts.

Secondly, is their a way to nudge steam into downloading workshop content without doing a cache verify (and having to re-install loads of mods). I subscribed to 2 scenarios and a route yesterday and they still haven't downloaded.

The answer is - yes, it is down :)

I have never had any problems with scenarios getting "stuck", have you tried unsubscribing and resubscribing? That could get things going.

I do love the way STEAM always sidesteps the issue of being down and blaming the users internet :)

Thanks. I'll give it a try when steam finally decides to work. At least TS2014 can be played offline.

That site says it's down right now, but I've just connected to Steam and am running TS2014! Are you sure it's a genuine site that's supposed to accurately reflect Steam's status?

How accurate is that site - I've just launched TS2014 from the UK server without any problem in spite of that site telling me that Steam is down.

Lots of steam and early diesels from 1959 to 1963.

It's fairly accurate, but as always, just because a site says something doesn't make it so :) Not sure if it's updated in real time. I only check it out during prolonged outages. It's reporting Steam as up right now :)

Seems to be working now. Also, subscribed and unsubscribed and the workshop route has downloaded too. Find routes tend to be most prone to not wanting to download.

Suspect the release of 'Thief' might be putting the Steam servers under pressure. A lot of AMD/ATI owners had free copies with their cards.

I had a few problems but my installation is pretty mangled after being transferred several times so I thought it was something to do with that.

I find that with workshop files they only become visible the second time TS is started up. Don't know if anyone else has this but seeing as it's only a very mild annoyance I haven't bothered to do anything about it.

What is going on with Steam, first thing today I had the "Connection" problem, now tonight the' Twin Peaks' music is substituted by a large American Diesel engine sound that I cannot turn Off (I've tried the "Turn off Background music" in 'Audio' under 'Settings' but it does nothing. The sound is worse than the "Twin Peaks" music.

EDIT: It does turn off now using the "Turn off Background music", Silence is Golden.

Hi 749006,

The blasted Diesel sounds are on all the time that a Scenario is not running, whilst you are in all the Menu screens. Is anyone else getting this or just me?

You could just push ESC when the intro starts to load.
