Riviera Line scenario editor

Post by tubemad »

Hello all,

I take with the release of a couple of scenario's it's not affecting everyone, but are some people having serious issues making scenario's or is it me?

I made one, completed it and tested it, but now it needs tweaking, I can't seem to be able to do it. Out of 8 attempts, only once has it actually let me get as far as editing, the other 7 just gives me that dump error thing, you know the one where if you edit a scenario on L2B at East Croydon with full scenery, that error comes up, it's that.

When I did get editing, it let me change the text in the scenario description and that was it, I typed the last word then it locked me up.

The last 2 attempts was to do the old _bak suffixes on the scenery folders, as that trick works with the bigger routes like L2B (why the Riviera Line should need it I don't know) but still I was placed into the editor and it gave up straight away.

Very strange that it's not letting me edit my scenario :-? I can do this in RW-Tools, but I can't place my custom scenery in there though...

**EDIT**

Something has broken I think, I can no longer make new ones either. I'll try a cache thingy

Yes, this looks to be a bit fussy in editor. Managed ok by turning down the graphic settings, but still had a few problems at Exeter before eventually finishing.
Could well be that the solution will be the same as for the Brighton line, ie, temporary removal of some scenery.

No problems running the scenario afterwards though, thank goodness.

Not just you James,

I'm "really" struggling to create a scenario starting at Paignton.

Done all the obvious stuff (verify cache, turn down graphic settings), allto no avail.

When trying to place the "Riviera" HST, TS2014 just locks up. I've even tried creating a new consist further down the line, and then placing it back at the station platform, only to have it bomb out on me again.

Was going for a haircut later today - many not need to now, as most of it has been pulled out!!

btw, thanks for your comments on my 'Crouch Valley' scenarios - much appreciated.

Haha!!

You know what - guess what I'm doing at the moment..............

And, unfortunately, it's nothing to do with the "0740 Paignton to London Paddington"!

Yes I have found the same issue - seems to happen after setting Paignton as a start point. After several crashes I got round it by setting my scenario start point as Starcross and then actually placing the train in Paignton and all that worked fine. Just means now you have a bit of a lag for a second or two as it loads the scenery. Scenarios should be quick to write on this line but because of this crashing issue and the difficulty of selecting objects once placed at Exeter or Paignton it is taking longer than I expected.

The World editor isn't working correctly, either. I achieved 2 'deletes' of those dreadful trees before a program crash. This is the first time I've had any problems with the 'World' editor in months and months.

Are you extending the Crouch Valley from Clacton/Walton to Colchester and Harwich to Manningtree? :D

Hmmm, makes one wonder just how DTG actually develop and work on the route? Are they actually using these tools? Or do they have some alternative we are unaware of?

Cheers.

I did once ask on Facebook do the Dovetail route makers use the in-game editor to create routes. the reply I got was 'Yes, but not for much longer'. Eh?

When creating a scenario in heavily populated areas I often just disable the 'Scenery' folder. You can name it what you like but I generally rename in SScenery. When you load the game up there is no scenery at all. This eliminates the problem of of scenery getting in the way of placing rolling stock especially station overall roofs. Unfortunately, with modern routes, you have to unpack the .ap file to do this and then the scenery should be gone!

My route building knowledge, at the moment, is pretty poor! I think I will stick with scenario creation - even that makes my head hurt...... :drinking:

I wish that would work, but as per my original post:

So with/without scenery, it doesn't make the odds difference. I'll have to do the final touches in RW-Tools and the next one I'll place the marker at Starcross.

Thanks for confirming it's not my copy of RW going wobbly!
