RunActivityLAA.exe

Have you given it a go? Post your experiences, particularly things that worked well. Let the team know what works and doesn't work as they cannot test the software with every combination of routes, activities and content available for MSTS. OpenRails is actively being improved and is quickly approaching v1.0. This is a great place to discuss what you can do with OpenRails.

RunActivityLAA.exe

Post by slipperman12 »

Hi,
Although it's been included since the latter part of December, it's only recently been brought to my attention (thanks Dennis!) that an LAA enhanced RunActivity.exe has been included in the Experimental downloads. I can find no instructions of how to utilise it - attempting to run it directly results in a message that OpenRails.exe should be run! Is it used automatically when running a 64-bit Operating System?

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged,

I think this post may help you,

http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threa ... re.112556/

There is a link in it for downloading the LAA utility. When this utility is run you can specify the path to the LAA version of RunActivity in the exp. download folder.

I use this all the time, though I still occasionally get problems relating to memory (even with 12GB of ram)!

After specifying the RunActivity (LAA version), the OpenRails.exe application may be run as often as you like until you download the next iteration of experimental OpenRails. Then you need to re run the LAA utility to refer to the new folder for the next version, etc. etc.

Just rename the runactivity.laa to runactivity.exe (renaming or deleting the original runactivity.exe, of course)

Hi Dennis,

That sounds like a better solution than the long winded one I have been using up till now. Will now do that instead.

Thanks for the info.

Hi Gentlemen,
Many thanks for your replies!

Dave : When I tested using the separate LAA utility, that's where I got it from and the way I did it!

Dennis : Thank you for the solution - simple when you think about it  Does it make a difference?

In the instances where I've had a problem, both starting from Kings Cross in MEP, using the LAA version seems to have cured it. Once you get about 10 miles from Kings Cross, the memory usage drops right away. The debug info in OR does not actually show what benefit you may be getting. All the info on the LAA subject is on Elva's Tower.

I think you need this for Mid east plus having used this I can get out of Kings Cross also approaching york from the north now works the only problem is the DMU`s which even missing a car and Skegness activities even stop or lock the computer up.

The DMUs don't work too well because they only specify one tenth of the required forces. The eng file takes advantage of an MSTS quirk which uses the throttle range parameter as a multiplier to the traction force - if you look it's 0 to 10 instead of 0 to 1. OR does not recognise this. As part of this curiosity which was designed to provide more realistic performance the idle speed is one rpm. Yes one. The stall speed is 100 in most of the DMU eng files so you start off, throttle back to change gear and the engine stalls and can't be restarted because of these weird numbers. These parameters are explained in the physics section - they were proposed by "bavli".
