Hi all,
Well, I have just built my first scenario on the Newcastle to York modern route. However, the player useable train is parked on a platform in Newcastle train station and the signal dead ahead is red and won't change due to a track convergence. I have tried the left click with shift to no avail, the track will not change.
Any help here would be appreciated as I am unable to drive my route.

Was this attempt to play/try your scenario done directly from building your scenario and then jump into Play mode?
If so, try just fresh starting your scenario from the sceneario list, instead of starting it from within the scenario editor. Fact is that signals are not properly initialised when adding the trains in the scneario editor and then trying to play it

Nope, to no avail. I changed the train onto a different track and that didn't work either.

What is the priority of the player service? Try setting it to the highest priority which is "ECS" and see if that clears the signal and gives you the route.
If it does it means that there is another service taking precedence and therefore the dispatcher sets the route for the train with the higher priority. It is safer to have all services that pass an area around the same time to have different priorities.
