How do you drive?

Post by thethirdrail »

Hi all.

I'm trying to gauge how people drive with regards to using the various camera views. This will enable me to better understand how much detail to go into and at what distance to draw the landscape when route building.

Your vote would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Usually only go to the external camera if I want to take a screenie or to couple/uncouple 1/2 a mile from the cab :)

Well for me, driving the locomotive is the main thing so spend most of my time using the interior cab view.

But when shunting in the yard, I change myself into one of the yard workers so leave the cab in favour of the free roam camera where I run ahead of the locomotive with my (virtual !) shunter's pole in my hand, pulling over the points levers as required.

Happy New Year to you all.

I'm far too nosey to just sit there with maybe a couple of minutes to spare before the off. I'm pressing 8. I'll have a good old look at how the route builder has / hasn't developed the immediate scenery. I sort of get the feeling that if a route builder has actually thought about providing a realistic way for passengers to get up onto a platform and not be able to get on the tracks.... well, it inspires me to think this chap knows a thing or two, and that if he has bothered with the small things, the overall product is going to be something special.

Can I assume, then, that my re-creation of Hanborough (WIP) meets your expectations? :)

Looks good. Realistic. I'm still getting over pulling into Shenfield Station and seeing a young lady straddling the station sign between her thighs. You just can't get the staff.

Spot on - apart from the absence of Minis from the adjacent car showroom!

Interesting too, in that it seems to suggest that cabview is what the majority prefer to see. That ought to take the burden off routebuilders who feel they have to add scenery up to a mile or more away from the track. Personally I'm quite happy with routes which have scenery immediately around the track and to cover distant horizons but little else. I still think of the MSTS Steyning route - one of the best in my opinion - which had very little scenery away from the track but still managed to be very immersive.
