Train Simulator 2014 - Add ons NOT loading

Post by fatfrank69 »

Hey guys, I've just installed Train Simulator 2014 and the base game works fine. But whenever I try add on my third-party content it won't work. I've installed the Watercress Line and the West Somerset Railway as well as a GWR Modified Hall, LNER Flying Scotsman,a SDJR 7F. They all appear in the menu and are selectable. When I select the Watercress Line the game just loads to the driving HUD and a black screen. When I load the WSR the same thing happens (though initially it loaded to a weird blue gridded world). Whenever I select a locomotive and load it to one of the routes I know works, nothing appears.

Bizarrely I just added a voyager and that does load. My game was purchased via Steam and I am adding the 3rd party content by installing it manually, copying and pasting the files. Any suggestions? I thought 2014 was meant to be backward compatible?

I would suggest you try a "verify integrity of game cache"

Basically you either load the 3rd party content by its installer if it has one, or if it is a RWP file you install it by the package manager, which is in the Utilities.exe in your main Railworks folder.

I've verified the doo dar twice and it's still not working.

The installation instructions said I just needed to unzip the file content, (assets, content and manuals) into the Railworks folder?

What do I need to do in the utility?

Which installation instructions would they be? You'll find different items have different *recommended* ways of installing, so to check whether you've gone about it the correct way we'd need to know which package that's from.
Verifying the game cache will do absolutely nothing to help with installing/trouble shooting assets/routes NOT downloaded through Steam---the Steam servers neither know or care about anything that isn't acquired through Steam so won't be in a position to fix any faults with 3rd party stuff.

A lot of addon content requires the "US Loco & Asset Pack" and the "European Loco & Asset Pack" both available from Steam. If you purchased TS2014 recently ( versus upgrading from a legacy install ) you won't have these packs, and its possible the addons you want require them. If this is the cause of your issue, the lowest cost way to get these two packs is to buy a route from Steam that contains the packs ( they usually mention it ). Its usually cheaper to go this way rather than purchase them separately.

Thanks for your reply, just having a look at the add-ons available via steam and there is no mention of the US Loco & Asset pack nor the EU Loco & Asset pack in any of the descriptions. Incidentally I have the Steam edition of Train Simulator 2014 and so have extra the extra routes and locos:

- Donner Pass
- London-Faversham
- Hamburg-Hanover
- Sheerness Branch
- Southern Pacific SD70M

Would any of them include it? Could you point me in the direction of an add on that does have those asset packs please?

I have a new copy of Train Simulator 2014 (Steam edition), which comes with several add-ons extra. Would it be included in any of these?

I've had a look at the DLC but it doesn't mention any including the US or EU loco and assets packs?

I've just downloaded the Somerset and Dorset add-on (it was £2.99) and this is working. Have tried the Watercress line again and it loads, there's a steam engine there (I can hear it and see steam) but everything is black?

Could you point me in the direction of an add-on containing the asset packs please?

I agree, I was mistaken on this. Now I am not sure if what I said was correct about those packs being included in certain addons.

It may be safest to purchase them separately following the links provided above by KiwiPete.

They used to be included with some routes, WCMLN being one of them, but it now looks like they aren't---going by the descriptions in the Steam store at any rate.
