Re: Removing unused Consists and Stock using Route Riter
Hi Arthur,
It's "dangerous" to delete stock and consists without also removing all activity and service files which use them. Also, don't forget that some of your used vehicles may alias to the cab and/or sounds of an otherwise unused loco.
Although Route_Riter can display the stock used in a route's activities, I don't think it can tell you which stock is NOT used in your whole installation .... unless somebody knows different !
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Removing unused Consists and Stock using Route Riter
Hi Arthur, as Ged has warned don't delete any consist as they may be used in another Route and Activity, I've still got all
the Trainset Files from my old computer and I have been asked for a consist that was missing and found it in the old
consist folder.
Why not create a folder called Unused Consists away from MSTS and put your unwanted consists in there so if the above
happens you can search them to see if you have them in there and move it back into your MSTS Trains Consist Folder.

Re: Removing unused Consists and Stock using Route Riter
Arthur,
It's only "dangerous" if you don't do it carefully.
Removing unused consists is relatively straight-forward and safe if you use Route_Riter. First, if you use Trainstore, unstore all. Then run the Check All Activities. Then press the "Unused" button at the bottom of the report screen. Then select all of the unused consists (left click on the top one, Shift left click on the bottom one) then right-click somewhere in the list and chose Move. That will put the unused ones in a folder called SpareCons.
Removing unused stock is a bit more long-winded. First of all move all of your Trainset folder contents except the Default folder and one loco that you know is used to a temporary folder. Then run the check all consists routine in Activity Analysis. It will give you a list of "missing " stock. Move that stock from your temporary folder to the Trainset folder. Keep going until nothing is missing. Then run the check all static models routine and do the same thing. Eventually you will get clean lists.
As Ged says the problem that may be left is that some stock may be using sounds and cab files from stock still in your temporary folder. Run the check routines in Conbuilder and they will identify anything that is still missing. Move that stock back into your Trainset folder.
What is left in your temporary folder is unused and can be stored away somewhere in case you need it in the future.
Good luck.

Re: Removing unused Consists and Stock using Route Riter
I endorse this suggestion. Elsewhere on my drive (and now also backed up on an external one) I have a folder of every consist and trainset I've ever used.scampispeedway wrote:folder called Unused Consists away from MSTS and put your unwanted consists in there so if the above
