Latest Version RW Tools available on UKTS
Just tried to d/load this superb utility - appears to be some kind of virus/trojan or whatever on the file. All other d/loads were OK - the problem was just RW Tools file. Anyone else had the problem ?

OK so at what point does this Virus / Trojan hit you.
Start of download, during the download, end of download, extracting the download ??????
Which application tells you there is a virus / trojan ??????
What message does the application give ??????
Having already downloaded it and extracted it, I see no issues. No reports from the browser and no reports from AVG Anti Virus.

Re: Latest Version RW Tools available on UKTS
As soon as I try to save it. The save dialogue box appears & then I get the intervention from my virus software. I've since tried to d/load & my system tells me :
The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
I've d/loaded successfully all other TS downloads showing this morning.
My virus software is Avast Pro
Hope this helps
Steve

Re: Latest Version RW Tools available on UKTS
I use Avast Free Antivirus, and the same thing happens when download from the Mike Simpson site web. At the end of the download, Avast Web Shield locks the file and the web.
If you disable the antivirus, the file can be saved normally. Then I analyzed the file with the same antivirus and it has not detected any viruses or threats, so most likely it is a false positive from Avast Web Shield.

Thanks for the extra detail Steve but I think Juanillo has already answered the question.
Antivirus software looks for signature sequences of bytes in files and FALSE positives do occur for perfectly valid files.

I have tested it here with Microsoft Security Essentials and AVC and neither have any problems with the file. If users of other anti-virus programs have problems, please advise your supplier as they only take reports from paying customers.

No problems here, either downloading, installing or running with Norton's Internet Security.
Re: Latest Version RW Tools available on UKTS
If I recall correctly, RW Tools writes or modifies a file in the System 32 folder. Some antiviruses are configured to interpret any such activity by a program they do not recognise to be malicious even if it's not. I wouldn't worry about it.

I've never had a problem, including the latest version 5.0.28. Using AVG.

Re: Latest Version RW Tools available on UKTS
I'm not worried about it but Avast is kicking out the mwgfx.dll everytime the program runs and hence won't load it. I also had the initial problem of the download being refused by Avast, too.
Are there any Avast users out there who know the way around this?
Thanks

Re: Latest Version RW Tools available on UKTS
Thanks for all the advice - Avast does appear to have an installation problem. Shutting down Avast & installing RW Tools installed no problem & after reopening Avast, it runs OK.
Sorry to have caused a bit of a panic, but thanks all for helping sort it

I also shut down Avast briefly to download it.

Re: Latest Version RW Tools available on UKTS
Well mwgfx.dll has been used by both RW_Tools and my earlier Route_Riter as well as a lot of utilities for Flight Simulator, and it has not changed for some time. So I can only assume that Avast has found a false-positive in the file.jetstream wrote:I'm not worried about it but Avast is kicking out the mwgfx.dll everytime the program runs and hence won't load it. Re: Latest Version RW Tools available on UKTS
No problems now with my RW installation. Jetstream, if you still have the problem with mwgfx.dll, it might be worth running it past Avast. I've found their customer support very good. It might also be worthwhile running a full boot scan just in case there's something nasty lingering about thats interferring with that *dll. Good luck
Re: Latest Version RW Tools available on UKTS
Thanks for the advice. I'll try a fresh reinstall with Avast shut down.
I've run RW Tools for years without problem so why Avast has suddenly taken exception I don't know. The file in question is mwgfxvb.dll.
I've rpeorted it as a 'false positive' to Avast so we'll see if they lift the 'threat' status on it.
