North Wales Coast would be heaven... As would a southern WCML between Euston and Nuneaton/Covetry with pre-West Coast Route Mod track layout. I'd also fancy a marketed/finalised version of South Devon Banks.
I'm getting bored of 'plastic fantastic' just like real life. Though I have enjoyed WLOS and the wonderous array of standard steam locos.
Agreed, modern railways just don't do it for me. All this plastic multiple unit rubbish is driving me potty! They're all near enough the same, just another identikit 'runaway carriage' with combined power and brake, pulln'go! I so miss the real world days of domination by locomotive hauled services. In Railworksland we've seen a winding down of classic diesels and electrics. Sadly, many of them were produced in the sims infancy and most have never been revamped or revisited. All we tend to see now is either steam engines or modern plastic runaway carriages.
North Wales Coast would be amazing, West Highland Line would by my idea of heaven as indeed would a commercial version of South Devon Banks. Someone at work this morning (who has no interest in railways, nor do they know of my dark secret) was saying they travelled by train at the weekend from Plymouth to Exeter and couldn't believe how stunning the scenery is. They said it's the most scenic route they've ever travelled, particularly the sea wall sections at Teignmouth/Dawlish and that's on a fast mainline too, not some obscure branchline!
Sadly a lot of commercial developers seem to shy away from the more challenging and diverse routes and instead we see lots of bland, straight line running only. GEML being a recent prime example. Even the mighty WCMLN is deathly boring in large parts between Carlisle and Carstairs. I'd love to see more routes that are loaded with unique scenery and/or challenges. Routes like Woodhead, the western expanses of WLOS etc.
