RS Stutter returns......

Post by smarty2 »

With a vengeance, since the update running the updated routes results in horrible stuttering! I have sent a support message to RSC outlining my findings, even setting the view distance down to low I still get ridiculous amounts of stutter just like the bad old days of RS! I re-instated a pre upgrade assets and content folder and I can run that at higher settings without the serious problems, I am not even sure it is the new draw distance or something else that's changed but it has seriously detracted from my enjoyment of running Hamburg Hannover! :(

Dont happen to have the new headlight flare on do you.. Seems to be another rather badly implemented effect in the sense its a layer on top of a layer on top of the orignal engine to create one effect... Im sure at this point it would have made more sense to invest and rewrite the source..

Another oddity I have found is if you change a setting and it asks for a restart.. unless your running nothing but fsxx (cant think why as it seems no different to no AA) the initial setting can still be running after restart unless you reboot your pc itself. (this could be me though as I am running an nvidia beta)

Hi, i have been trying to run a scenario on WCML, and it is unplayable, its a very slow slideshow,L2B is the same, Why does this always happen with this game? i have just installed F12013, and it works right out of the box,max settings,no stutter,no flying spectators doing a war dance, just a well written, well tested game! IF RSC want to be seen as serious developers they need to get there act together, our loading screens show statements from people with grand titles, not one of them seem to have done there job properly!
I thank my lucky stars i have my copy of TS2013 working well, its not perfect, but it sure beats 2014 on performance and stability.

I do yes, but I do not think it is this, as my non .ap routes work as before but more stable, I am now able to run the beta of Hamburg Bremen 2 without sbhh, and lovely performance even in Hamburg. I have taken the folders out of the .ap container on the Hamburg Hannover route and replaced them in the old way, but to no avail! I know before they released 2014 they stated that the new draw distance would only be a small hit on performance, I disagree completely, its been a disaster for me personally.

It did this in 2013 if one made a substantial change to settings.

Bear in mind that your individual player settings are stored in playerprofiIe.bin which lives in your Content folder so you will have copied the TS2013 one back. There are half a dozen or so new lines in it for TS2014 including one for the new headlight flare setting. It quite possibly defaults to off if the line isn't there?

I've noticed this myself, on any route that I've ran since the update. While it's not rendered any of them unplayable it ranges from just noticeable through to seriously distracting.

If memory serves there have been similar type of issues with just about every major update and they have usually been sorted out within a couple of weeks of the launch. Lets hope the same thing goes this time around.

Has to be said (conspiracy theorists look away now!) that issues such as this, and the tunnel problem that's emerged, raise legitimate questions about the efficacy of the beta-testing regime being applied by RSC to their updates.

I hadn't noticed any problems in the tunnel coming out of Hannover, perhaps it only affected 3rd party routes? Nevertheless RSC should patch that pretty quickly. I will await a response if I'm lucky that is, since they are experiencing a trawler load of support requests at the moment!

have you checked for your disk being fragmented. You will probably find that though the files may not be too fragmented they may not be in the same area of the disk. This means that the heads have to move and then wait for the disk to be in the correct place. If its a slow disk then this will exacerbate the problem.

Thus when the next set of objects is loaded the disk goes into overdrive trying to get the file parts, but is too slow causing the stuttering.

Hi, Speaking for myself my drive is defraged, and 100% healthy, the bottom line is my clean TS2014 instalation stutters, wereas my 2013 clean instalation does not! this points without a doubt to the 2014 patch, why, i do not know, but i am sure it will be found, and hopefully fixed, pity there isnt a way to load the improved developer tools into TS2013.

FWIW. I have the latest Koeblitzer route and running the scenario with the DB 232 in 2013 I couldn't complete it as at different points it use to freeze and I had to bring up the Task Manager to get out of TS 2013, now in TS2014 this scenario now runs with just the odd stutter.

I am really getting tired of this... it makes me feal uneasy when I think of all the money I spent on TS products...

Now I realise more an more what people like Richard Stallman have always been trying to explain...why proprietary software is evil. NOT because of it costs money, it has nothing to do with it at all, but simply because if there is a bug or security problem you rely on one vendor to fix it...

I defrag my disk regularly with My Defrag, it isn't that that is causing this dreadful stutter as my non .ap file routes work as before even better than 2013 in fact.

I actually forgot to mention the name of the scenario which is Coal For Koelblitz with the DB 232.

Everytime i read this topic i just think about my own experience with "tile load lag" that i talked about elsewhere... it sounds like you are suffering the same thing

However, i see you have already posted in that topic - so would i be correct in assuming you have tried unzipping the .ap file (and repopulating all the empty folders with the original files) to see if it solves your problem?
Why couldn't the steam loco sit down? - Because he had a tender behind.
