Yes my favourite routes are the German ones and there Trains. And yes my father fought in WW2 in North Africa and was shot in the leg and captured by the Germans and spent some time in a POW camp in Austria, but I don't hate the Germans.

For the win, and hopefully not a ban, it's the people shooting randomly through Kenyan shopping malls that I hate. They are your enemy OP, not Germans or any other forward thinkning people around the world.

Western Lines Of Scotland is a must...

Don't you start. Settle-Carlisle from the library here would be excellent, but RSC's Settle is perhaps too modern for him. Heh heh.

The version available from the Steam Workshop looks quite nice, although I've only had a very brief 'fly through'---revised to 1975 condition and extended to Hellifield.

If there is any doubt remaining about the excellence of WLOS, may I suggest downloading for free the "original" Port Road route from UKTS. It is not as large or complex as the "full" route, but it is a delight in its own right and gives a flavour of the standard of routebuilding to expect 8)

If you have just 4 add-ons a year you can afford, I recommend to invest in stuff you get value for money;

US routes: Horse shoe curve. Lot of stock, suitable for shunting, a bit of passenger runs and nice freight runs.

UK routes: Western Lines of Scotland if you like the old days. It includes a fair amount of rolling stock., but you will need the European Asset pack.

German routes: Cologne Dusseldorf. Not very long but a fair amount of rolling stock. You may want to buy the ICE1 additionally.

As second route for these area:
US: Ohio steel 2, lots of shunting, lots of scenarios

UK: WCML-N, but you need the Class 390 as well.
Germany: I thing toe old Ruhr-Sieg is a good investment. It's old but there are many scenario's of all kinds, and you will get the European Asset pack included.

Cologne Dusseldorf? I suppose the fact the OP said he did not want any German routes and was more in to Steam than Diesel does not count ?
An he already owns WCML-N so why buy it again?

Not even sure where Horse shoe curve is
any where near this route http://store.steampowered.com/app/65233/?snr=1_7_15__13 ?

I know it's not yet been 3 months, but I just wanted to point out one mistake: I actually had the GWML add-on, not the WCML add-pn.

But then again, both do have the word "West" in it in some form and both are run by the FGW company. Perhaps that' sway I got confused.

Well, if you want a personal opinion, I like what's being put out by Meshtools right now, for both the Austerity and 3F Jinty handle and sound the most realistically, although if you want to save a little money the Stanier Mogul and BR King available free here at UKTS are just as good (the Stanier's a real treat for how good it sounds). In the diesel department, I like the Class 31 from RSC, looks and sounds good, and meshes well with my collection of classic transition-era diesels (I'm a steam man at heart, but I'll admit that the old diesels are growing on me), has plenty of character and a nice noise to it, although I like the complexity of the Class 111 DMU as well.

As for routes, well I'd highly recommend the Western Lines of Scotland by Keith Ross, available from steam, for not only do you get a properly long (roughly 120 miles) and beautiful route up in the highlands of Scotland, you get a revamped Black Five with realistic driving physics and sound, plus plenty of rolling stock.

Again, if you want to save money, I'd get the freeware Settle and Carlisle 1920's from here on UKTS, although I can't say on how good it is just yet, for it takes a boatload of time for me to download and I haven't had the time yet (this is the only thing I don't have in this recommendation, all the rest I have).

Cheers,
Brendan O.

The West Coast Main Line is not run by the "FGW Company"
A bit of research will show that most trains are operated by Virgin - that Richard Branson chap.
There is also a lot of Freight and local passenger trains over different parts of the route.

If you like Steam the Western Lines of Scotland is very good.

If you would like Diesels and Electrics then WCML-N is the one. But you would have to learn to drive the Class 86 !
