Hi Gary,
Many thanks for the (very) full explanation :)

I'm sure it'll be a great help to newbies and those transferring from XP. It may be worthy of inclusion in a 'sticky' at the top of the Forum (apologies if it's there already!)

As for calling you a Wizard. well, although I don't use TS2013/4 full time, I always like to read your comments and solutions to others problems; I have learnt quite a bit that way!

Cheers,
Ged

Gary
That is the best explanation that I have seen on the PF/PF(86) issue.
Thanks

Hello gptech

I have run the simulator as system administrator and nothing, still the same problem.
Today I made a copy of the Steam folder on an external drive and tried to start the simulator from that place and surprise Arranco smoothly.

Someone can guide me because from the album "C" does not start???

Now I say, the external disk (E) that I have this connected to my PC by USB port, only the Steam folder, because starting the simulator with the existing executable in this album "E" if it works and executable disk "C" (Hard Disk) no.

I apologize if I misspelled in English. I only speak Spanish and this is translated with Google.

Hi again jjromano,
don't worry about your English, it's certainly a lot better than my Spanish!!

If the game is starting from your E: it would seem to substantiate my earlier post about getting the game out of the C:\Program Files folder and away from the Windows system protection but it's not often that the result of a move is so spectacular.

I'd recommend putting the game back on to your internal drive, as the USB connection could be too slow for when you hit an area with dense vegetation and scenery; it's entirely up to you how you name the location, as long as it makes sense to you.... C:\Games is as good a name as any.
Better still, if you have more than one physical hard drive fitted would be to install to that---having the operating system and programs on separate drives is something else that is often suggested but more to aid performance than anything else.

Whilst I'm on a roll.... :)

another handy tip which goes a fair way to getting round the system file protection is to use the option in RW Tools to make all railworks files read/write. I should have remembered that a lot earlier....

Gary
Or to use a little Vista app (works in Win 7) to take ownership of every file on your pc!
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows- ... -in-vista/

The other way is complicated in that every drive, folder or file you give full permissions under security to 6 key users and that gets around the PF/PF(x86) restrictions and makes every drive, etc shareable on a network.

I like your solution better than mine.

Has the Op tried this fix recommended by RSC:
Enter your games library on steam, right click on Train Simulator 2014, select properties, select general, select set launch options and enter -VC. Restart your PC.
This seems to fix some C++ redistributable issues.

Hello

I want to tell that achieves run the TS 2014.

Install Steam folder in C:\Program Files (x86) and followed with the same problem.

Then I had to install the folder in C:\Program Files and it works perfectly.

Also check that Steam already recognized me, but I do something, the new place where the simulator is installed.

As always thank you to you for helping me find a solution.

EDIT: It didn't work when I tried to move it, it'd stuck to the Program Files (x86) folder, and I had to reinstall steam and the entire game, loosing ALL MY FILES, and took about 2 hours and I did use the -VC shortcut, the result: NOTHING!!! It's STLL the same problem with this stupid module MSVCR100.dll.

No, you're better off with Steam installed away from either of the Program Files folders.

What I did was the following, first cut and paste the Steam folder that was installed in Program Files (x86) and place it on an external drive. Thus, the Train Simulator 2014 I worked.

Then paste the Steam folder in the root of drive C: \ Steam and it worked.

Finally I did another test peguando Steam folder in C: \ Program Files \ Steam and it worked.

In short is that, to me, in C: \ Program Files (x86) does not work.

I hope I was clear in my explanation. Nor is it happens, I have no idea why.

Perhaps someone who knows softaware and / or systems can explain.

Unfortunately there is no rational reason why installing TS2014 in the Program Files folder instead of the Program Files(x86) folder would work except if you had a "corrupt" install in the latter and a "good" install in the former.

These folders have the same properties the only reason Microsoft included both was to distinguish between a program that was both 32-bit and 64-bit (eg IE MS Office Adobe Photoshop, etc) and it was thought that if both the 32 and 64 bit programs installed in the same folder there could be registry and other issues. Hence MS in its wisdom created 2 folders one for 32-bit apps and one for 64-bit apps. You can install a 32-bit app in the PF folder - windows doesn't care (actually where you install it. See above why it is NOT a good idea to install TS 2014 in EITHER of these folders.

Sorry but its a myth!

Hello pH

I understand what you're saying.
I tell you my experience.
I cut the Steam folder that is in 64bit and 32bit transfer to and does not work the TS2014.
Remember that like arttrain when moving the Steam folder to a external diff 2014 TS worked.
I wrote to the support of CSR and have still not been answered.
It may be a mystery to reolver for support RSC.
