Train Simulator 2014 has arrived.......

Well, the upgrade started off well!

Went 'live' on Steam and the files came over pretty quick. Clicked the icon to start TS2014 and nothing seemd to happen - then AVG kicked in and said the Railworks.exe file was 'infected' and gave me the option to 'heal' it or accept it. I chose the latter and it deleted it anyway!!!

Now doing a verify to try and get it back ..... will report later

Via the Utilities app, should be located the same place as in TS2013 (I've placed a shortcut on my desktop so easy to get to)

Did a copy of the Steam backup to C:drive.
Did the update of TS2014 > black screen... nothing did happen.

And as suspected JSJ's fantastic work getting TrackIR working in TS2013 has been broken with the new update. So RSC have completely failed to give us decent hardware support.

The GUI is basically a polish up of what we already had, no new buttons, and at least one old button that has been discontinued but a place-holder left in as a grey square. Music added to the GUI... I remember loads of requests for that particular feature.

And for those of us that would like to have seven miles of extra track in London to Faversham, we have to buy a complete TS2014 with two extra routes we may well not want. No thank you.

So I've spent a total of about 20 mins in the game, and thank gawd I backed up TS2013 before downloading this as I'll not be going anywhere near it again until JSJ has worked his magic.

Getting proper fed up of this now.

If they don't open up the branchlines for existing users as a free upgrade I think its something we'll be seeing in the new Marketplace.

So can i confirm that if i buy the TS2014 steam edition for the Sherness Branch update, and plus the other two routes (which i haven't got) will it re-update my game or will it add another separate TS2014?

Didn't take long for the tone of the thread to take a familiar turn, bet you were all gutted when it updated and then executed properly without SBHH (tongue in cheek).

It will just update your current game, with the extra two routes + the bit for Faversham.

I wonder when we will see the first workshop route. Wasn't there meant to be a couple released on the launch of TS2014?

The issue is that TrackIR isn't supported after years of asking for it to be. It's a serious piece of simulation kit used in practically every other simulator on the market and wouldn't take long for RSC to implement. JSJ added third party support and the new update has broken that. And what hardware additions do we get in this "simulator"? Xbox controller support! WOOO HOOO! Something every "simulator" needs... Music in the GUI! That was a popular request... And shinier buttons...

Oh and I cured some of the SBHH errors by cutting a load of stuff from the Kuju folder. Of course, I've had to forego a load of downloaded scenarios that require the bloated folder, but so what. I can use three huge monitors to play TrainGame2014 from the comfort of my settee in my living room using an Xbox controller! Now that's what I call Simulation... NOT!

TrackIR is useless AND horrendously unrealistic unless the monitor rotates with your head. At the moment it gives the amazingly realistic prospect of turning left and showing you everything that is on your left hand side in the right hand side of your vision. Who exactly moves their eyes right to see what's on the left of them?

How many people have actually asked for TrackIR support in the game?

I think it's like 5 as I've seen on this forum so saying there's a market for it just because you're one of the owners of a TrackIR (and before you ask I have one too) doesn't really work.

And there speaks a fanboy who's never tried TrackIR in any sim. Every TrackIR user I've spoken to, and had contact with in forums wouldn't use a sim without it after 30 seconds of use. It's completely natural and gives such an incredible amount of immersion that we hate to not be able to use it.

We know, they listen, but its a numbers game I think. At least we know its being discussed, but unfortunately it seems we'll be waiting until next year if at all, however they are taking Occulus Rift seriously and I am pretty sure this came about not because of demands (flooded out by people asking for squirrels), but rather exposure to it at Gamescom in Germany. I really hope you recently submitted feedback to them concerning TrackIR.

Perhaps, just perhaps next year they will tackle more of the simulation elements. TS2014 is certainly a nice upgrade from what I have seen so far, the UI is much nicer and well that is all I have time for until much later tonight as today is going to be busy.
