Hehh, sounds funny but seems to be true. I have analysed RSC sound blueprints and conclusion is that somebody is making sounds who know almost nothing about sound technology and very little about parameters which are listed in blueprints. There are very often non-linked functions - soundfile exists but is not in use. They had plans to do something with file but failed. Basic sounds are distorted sometimes. Sound guy know nothing about how to use fading effects. He's even not familiar with AP methods and seems that don't care much of how fading should be achived. Some important sounds are missing - for example sound of 'bogies in motion' or so called running sounds. The result is simulation without any normal driving feel. And we're expected to pay for such a poor production. Personally I don't pay anymore. For me RSC models are waiting until sale campaigns start and even then I'm checking if the price is dropped 50 or more percents. Because take in count - RSC's rolling stock add-on's final price is equal to RSC's product + AP soundset. For comparision other developers release complete packages like AP/Waggonz Class 90/DVT or Class 142. What I especially like is how AP is promoting soundpacks - they videos are extremely well put together and You'll be familiar soon what's inside the pack. Great production level.tubemad wrote:and recorded the 'First' Ford Transit van instead or something

The "woosh" in the "head out" view is spectacular, really big sense of speed/movement

Re: Armstrong Powerhouse 'Desiro' soundpack
I think the thing to remember with RSC is they're primarily a business, and if putting weeks into a good soundset proves no difference in sales compared to a rush-job, its clear what they're going to do regarding sounds. But then again, it would be worse if they made nearly-but-not-quite-perfect soundsets, as it wouldn't be commercially viable for third parties to make soundpacks that are actually 'spot-on', and we'd all be driving around in trains that almost sound good

I'm sure RSC get a cut of every sale AP makes.david1 wrote:RSC are not the only commercial producers of traction that have poor sound files, but at least RSC allow Richard to preform is magic on there models to make them sound awesome

Re: Armstrong Powerhouse 'Desiro' soundpack
Why would they? Richard doesn't work for RSC his sound packs are 3rd party, so he is under no obligation to pay them anything unless he does a project for them.dean1986 wrote:I'm sure RSC get a cut of every sale AP makes.david1 wrote:RSC are not the only commercial producers of traction that have poor sound files, but at least RSC allow Richard to preform is magic on there models to make them sound awesome

The thing that sets Richard Armstrong above RSC is that he gets it. He understands what proper train sounds are and what they mean for simulator users. That is why he is so successful because he is one of us, a crank! Rich knows exactly which 'buttons to push' and that in the world of railway simulation sound is massive.
RSC on the other hand just don't get it, both for sound and in so many other ways too. Paul Jackson certainly does not get it, he is not one of us, in fact he is anti-simulator man (ASM!) doing everything possible to take Railworks to mainstream.

Hi Richard, am planning to buy this as usual but was waiting to find out if the horn problem referred to had been resolved or not first. If you could advise please? Thanksphat2003uk wrote:Currently trying to track down the cause of the horn problem, sorry about that. Please note though that the driver/guard buzzer is only available for the 380/444/450 as 360s are driver only operated.

I'm pleased to say both the horn and invisible train issues were fixed a few days ago.
Re: Armstrong Powerhouse 'Desiro' soundpack
Fantastic - will buy it straight away then.phat2003uk wrote:I'm pleased to say both the horn and invisible train issues were fixed a few days ago.

Re: Armstrong Powerhouse 'Desiro' soundpack
Bought this soundpack last night in a last ditch attempt to get some kind of positive use out of the awful default class 360.
Mission accomplished Armstrong Powerhouse! Transforms an otherwise lifeless piece of rolling stock and makes it useable. I actually found myself moderately enjoying taking a run in the plastic-fantastic 360! Just goes to show what the power of good sound can do to a simulated train.
Richard - if you're reading this, did you do anything different with the track joint sound on this one? The problem of in-cab track joint sound disappearing after changing views didn't seem to occur on my test run last night?

Same, I couldn't drive the unit before this sound pack. Now I quite like it.jimmyshand wrote:Bought this soundpack last night in a last ditch attempt to get some kind of positive use out of the awful default class 360.

I have even made a scenario for Cresston and uploaded it to the file library
