Even streamline the Kuju folder or maybe do away with it completely ?

I agree! I often find myself only really wanting to set scenarios in clear conditions as all other conditions don't seem to hold the same realism.firstborn wrote:The most intriguing thing for me is this:
"Hamburg-Hanover will be updated with TS2014 features on 26th September."
Which implies that there will be something major added to the core program for routes, that will allow some sort of effect currently not possible.... I wonder what it could be?
It'd be nice to get proper wet weather effects! or maybe wind effects with trees/foliage that sway & rustle!

Re: Train Simulator 2014 - 26th September
I await with interest but I remain ever sceptical given it took until half way through 2013 to update most of the RW catalogue to TS2012 standards (which was released in 2011) and then most were not updated but re-released as 'new' products with the 'new' (2 yr old) features but with less variants than the 3-4 year old originals!
One rumour is quashed though, TS2014 will not be a brand new sim.
I'm not interested in what existing routes it ships with, I'm interested in new features / technology.
If the opening marketing punt is centred on existing routes it ships with then it doesn't bode well for some exciting, revolutionary or innovative new features.

Agreed, I can confirm Kuju folder is a big problem. I had SBHH's on latest AP class 37 pack. Kuju folder was ginagorous after installing freeware packs and billions of other reskins etc. Moved the lot to a separate drive and went for a clean re-install. The AP packs now work faultlessly.Ajay1 wrote:Even streamline the Kuju folder or maybe do away with it completely ?
Hope TS2014 can address this issue because part of the hobby is collecting and expanding, not much use if it keels over and dies after a certain number of addons.

As it stands at the moment I have at least 6 Kuju folders and 15 routes with certain scenarios that won't work unless I swap over to the relevant one beforehand. Its getting a bit of a nuisance swapping and changing every time I want to run them.

Hmm. This gives me an idea. Maybe we're going to have to make a train store for TS2014...Ajay1 wrote:

Anyway back on topic. IMO, its good to see that RSC are going to the effort of making TS2014, even if it's just a rebrand of TS2013. It shows that they're dedicated to the simulation, or at least the world of train simulation.

I just hope I don't have to spend weeks and weeks sorting out which scenarios still work.

A RW Trainstore could be a good idea, especially now there is a proven link between SBHH's and folder sizes which has been verified by many individuals.
It's a real shame because I've been deterred now from installing the excellent freeware packs because they bloat your Kuju folder quickly.
Big problem this because collecting is the name of the game but you're forced to be extremely selective over what you install otherwise you might just trigger that SBHH tipping point and then you've got a right job on to do a fresh install and get it back up to a reasonable standard of modification again.
For now I've basically settled for AP scenarios and workshop only. A possible solution is to have multiple RW installations offline from Steam but then you're faced with the headache of how to port over new things you want in various installations, you're also required to have multiple beefy hard drives which not everyone does. Finally, I use Raildriver & Trackir and I've not been able to get them to work properly in 2 installations on 2 different drives.

Nice to see so much excitement of the announcement.....oh hang on.....
Methinks we've all learned our lesson by now and are giving it the very very cautious approach!

Well, I don't think that it will all go smoothly of course, but we are not dealing with EA, Konami or Sony here - this is a very small company with a single product focus. I will sit and help deal with the struggles and issues it will doubtless bring, and I will look forward to all of the improvements coming with it too. But by the look of a lot of the respondents who are just defaulting to huge cynicism - even the timing of the announcement - I'm disappointed. I'm no longer surprised, but it does dishearten me, and it must do to all of those who put in many many hours that we don't see in the programming of it. I hope they don't see what is mostly blanket negativity, because it belittles their effort.
A community is supposed to help make something stronger, but sometimes people here seem determined to drive it apart - yet there is still a hardcore almost die hard section of fans for MSTS and the OpenRails project it spawned, despite that being left practically dead in the water by the software company from the moment it hit the store shelves.
People are entitled to opinions, and misgivings, but the way they are presented says a lot. No doubt this place will become flustered and filled with topics like "Where has my 156 gone?" or "Why won't route xxx load?" demanding to know why they weren't informed of any changes or coming updates so they could switch to offline. Well, not me, I'm going to embrace it, as I have for all of my previous LARGE AND TOTALLY FREE UPGRADES with a warm welcome, and in equal measure I shall enjoy the improvements but also the potential challenges that come with getting all of this stuff up off the ground and running towards the future.
