what is Steam doing now????

Just went to open steam...
it downloaded 97000kb
then filled my desktop with folders that should have been in the Steam Folder???????
Does it think the 'shortcut' on desktop is my Steam Folder????????

in the steam folder the steam.exe was renamed steam.exe.old
as such the computer could not open an .old file.. so renamed it steam.exe
Then it went ónline'without out being asked..
I went to validate files

it wanted 24 new files...
now its updating steam 30 mins it says....
everthing was fine and dandy yesterday...

Never before in the annals of human history (apart from Google and Facebook) as there been a program that moves into your computer and totally takes over like some wayward child that is there to cause unlimited troubles for its owner...

Bring back the days of RS and TS when everthing was on disc....

so what you got to grip about today???

it directed me to the steam website

it said close steam

go the steam folder and delete 'appcache'
restart computer and start steam again

that worked

just verifing cache again

now its downloads 10 megs updates

Hope you get it sorted,just checked my Steam folder and there is only one steam.exe file in there. Then again I always tuck Steam away under the blankets(shut down) for the night

You are lucky mate. After I bought the London Faversham route the other day TS wouldn't work so did a verify cache and after it finished it said it had to update 3000 odd files which was about 3.2gb.
