Steam Update received on 9/7/2013

Post by emrhd01 »

Just thought I'd warn members that I had a fairly large 'Steam Update' this morning which required a Steam restart. After the Steam restart, I started Train Simulator 2013 and it immediately went into Train Simulator 2013 "first time setup", which then proceeded to update 332 files. This procedure took some 15 minutes on my P/C (they seemed to be DirectX 9 updates mainly), after the update had 'fully' completed I ran Train Simulator 2013 again and everything seems to be OK, the only reason I 'Posted' this was to hopefully to pre-warn members of what will happen when accepting this fairly large Steam update.

Hope this is message is helpful to some members.

What do you mean by accept?
It seems it is reinstalling DirectX 9, PhysX, Flash Player, VC10 runtime repeatedly - while the PC is useless because of constant pop-ups.

Edit: Yup! I recommend avoiding this "update" until they people responsible have fixed it!
The script running is X:\steam\steamapps\common\railworks\runasadmin.vdf
Only file added today.
Smile when ...

Hi trainsmit

What I meant by 'Accept' was, allowing it to install.

It did not seem to be repeatedly installing for me, as it stated "1 of 332", "2 of 322", etc. until it reached "332 of 332" on my P/C. :-? This only happens the first time you re-start Train Simulator 2013 after installing the Steam Update, re-starting TS 2013 after this, results in a 'normal' start-up.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium and as I have previously said Train Simulator 2013 is again operating normally.

I didn't mean to start an Alarmist Thread, I just wanted to warn members of the lengthy time this update actually takes to install (332 files).

Hi Mr395008,

Blimey that is a long time, especially as your P/C spec seems pretty good.

The very reason I thought I'd warn members about this update, in case they wanted to have a quick run on TS2013.

Hi Ross,

You should find everything is OK when it has completed.

It is also being discussed on the RW Facebook (Posts by others page).

It's definitely not normal. If it keeps doing it every time you start TS 2013 you need to delete "ClientRegistry.blob" That's what I ended up doing after several minutes of frustration. Steam is a real PITA.

It's not an update to the game but Steam itself, I don't think you can opt out of those.

I see, thats good to hear. I wasn't looking forward to having to reinstall a lot of scenario's and various other items. Especially as my 'backup' hard drive got corrupted last week and i lost about 100gb of RW downloads!

Hi Andy,

I'm not a Face-ache member, but I can select the 'Posts by others' page and read it, try this https://www.facebook.com/railsimulator?ref=ts&filter=2.

Thanks, that link worked. I wonder why it wouldn't let me in through the front door though? Not that I find those pages easy to navigate anyway.
