Start a scenario in cabin with engine off

Only way I know to start a scenario in the cab is to position the player loco inside a tunnel where the external view is automatically switched to the cab view.

Some loco's/unit's have a cold start option built into them. I'd argue that this useful and immersive facility should now be considered as standard for new releases and be being retro-fitted to the existing stable but I wouldn't suggest holding your breath.

And gave the instructions from that thread a try and can report that it works just fine. I think I'll be using this most of the time in the future.

Yep, those instructions work well. Now for the engine start...maybe that's asking for too much

Like Malky I have tried this out and it seemed to work very well, but there is a pitfall!

I tried to use the technique with three scenarios for the Oxford to Paddington route and, in each case, it caused Railworks to crash on start up with a typically unhelpful error message. It was only by deleting the scenarios that I could get Railworks to start up again. Needless to say I tried again assuming that I had made a mistake, but no the result was the same. Luckily I had copies of the scenarios, so I was able to re-instate them after deletion. I then tried modifying a scenario for the original York - Newcastle route with the same result so it seems likely that all of the original Railsimulator routes will behave in the same way. I have checked the following routes and the technique seems to work OK.
Bristol & Exeter, Bristol & Avonmouth, Newcastle & York Modern, Scottish East Coast Main Line and West Coast Main Line North. Above all make sure that you back up your scenario before making the change.

Since writing my post on this subject I have found that my original supposition that I had made a mistake was, in fact, correct . If you follow the procedure described in the link provided by Malky Mackay then you should not experience any problems. Have tried this method on a Bristol - Exeter scenario i was making. Followed the instructions and now get an SBHH when loading the scenario, changed it back and still get SBHH. Nothing else has been changed, anyone any ideas?

Hi Donny,

I had a similar problem and I found that I had deleted a character to one side of the Boolean zero/one character. It is fairly easy to do and if you didn't notice you could have failed to replace it when you changed back to zero. It should be >1< not >1 or 1<

Beyond this I haven't got a clue.

I'm convinced I've deleted something I shouldn't have but can't see what, oh well, my own stupid fault I guess for not backing up first

Hi Donny,

A further thought. Did you edit the file using RSTools? The main problem that I had was that I remembered what had to be changed, but I forgot that the file had to be changed using RWTools. So I edited the file by using the widows text editor and that caused my problems. Editing with RWTools seems to do more than just change the visible file content, so if you made the mistake that I did try re-editing with RWTools.

Sadly I did use Rwtools, just need to put this one down to experience I guess. I have now learnt my lesson and made a complete backup though so some goods come of it.

I guess this comment comes too late but RW Tools generally makes a backup of any changed files so it should be very easy to revert to a previous situation.
