M&NB Joint Stock

Post by DarwinS »

Having finally got the ex Midland Railway corridor coaches uploaded. (Almost in time for June :D ) I can now look again at putting some of them into LNER livery:

Image

I wonder if any LNER fans can tell me any more about their history. They of course started work on the through trains between St Pancras and Edinburgh Waverley. By the early 1930's they were working from Edinburgh Waverley to Inverness. By the mid '30's they had been displaced from this by more modern LNER stock. What did they do then?

(I imagine they probably remained in Scotland, did they drift off to the GNoS section?...
...most were withdrawn in the late 1940's, so what did they do in their final 10 or 15 years?)

Hi Darwin,

I was down at the model show in Perth on Sunday and picked up a carriage compendium booklet from the GNSRA stand. In it there was a complete list of all the coaches that had operated in the Great North area, both company built and those that had been imported in by the LNER. I've had a look through it and I can't find any indication that the M&NB stock was used in the North-East.

Maybe they were transferred to the G&SWR lines after their use on the Highland section or back to the NB area?

Hope this helps :)

John.

Thanks for that. I forgot the LNER ran more along pre-group company divisions... So perhaps having been allocated to the NBR section, they remained there for local workings or as spare stock.

Hate to be annoying, but is there any chance of getting these in MR livery? I know there is the coaches from the Skipton route, but they (like a lot of the early models) are looking a bit tired when compared to the stock you guys are turning out nowadays.

In any case, thanks a bunch for the kit you have put out Darwin, always good when you upload a model.

Cheers

Given time, I could repaint them in MR livery (including M&GSWR and M&NBR), but with other projects on the go it might not be very soon.

Alternatively if anyone else wants to do some reskinning then I am happy to give them permission.

In the meantime, did you have a look at the coaches released by Renzo Grassi with the Leeds to Carlisle route?

Hi Darwin,
Yes I have the Leed-Carlisle stock. I do have a memory that the set was missing a few coaches, and I did email him, but got no reply. I guess I should learn to be thankful for what I have. :)

Anyway, once again, thanks for your work. It's much appreciated.
