Will it work?
Hi,
I have had older train sims on my older computers and I have just got a new one with upgraded specs. I was wondering whether TS2013 would work on it?
Windows 7
Intel Core i5 Quad Core
2.5 GHz
4GB Memory
AMD Radeon HD 6750M
512MB RAM
If not, would Railworks 3 work on it?
Thanks,
Jack

Will it work?
Looks like it'll work quite nicely to me, maybe with TSX on but I wouldn't hold your breath
PC Spec: i9 10900k, 32GB DDR4 3200 RAM, GTX 980ti, 1TB NVME SSD
Re: Will it work?
Depending on exactly which i5, there's a good chance it'll run just fine (and I don't think there's much difference in performance between RW3/TS2012 and TS2013).
The graphics card gets a similar benchmark score to mine, and I can run TSX on, pretty much everything maxed except antialiasing (and occasionally shadows on 'heavy' routes) at 25 fps, 1680x1050.
If you look in My Computer -> Properties, is there a code after i5, such as i5 760 or i5-2300?

Yeah, it says i5-2500.ttjph wrote:Depending on exactly which i5, there's a good chance it'll run just fine (and I don't think there's much difference in performance between RW3/TS2012 and TS2013).

Re: Will it work?
Well, that makes it significantly more powerful than my system and I'm pretty happy with that for TS2013.

Re: Will it work?
Hi, hope you dont mind me piggy backing this thread, rather than start another will it run thread!
been looking to purchase a new pc as my current is borderline when running train sim, i found this set up for £500 seems ok to me apart from the dual core, i notice there is a lot of quad core about now, will this processor be ok and will the rest be ok also
Intel i3-3240 Dual Core 3.4GHz CPU
1TB Seagate Barracuda SATA3 Hard Drive
8GB DDR3 Memory
4GB Nvidia GT640 PCI-E Graphics Card
Microsoft Windows 7 or Windows 8
CIT Warlord Case
500Watt Cooler Master Elite PSU
Asus P8H61-MX Motherboard with USB3
24X Liteon DVDRW
would be going for the windows 7 option, as it has 8GB memory i assume its 64bit
cheers

Re: Will it work?
That is all fine except the graphics card, they are trying to hoodwink you with RAM on the card, but it doesn't matter how much RAM you chuck at it the GPU is the weakest link in that spec. Try and get a GTX650 with 2Gb or a 650Ti with 1 or 2Gb (not the newer 650Ti Boost necessarily) as that will work better.GavNormandale wrote:Hi, hope you dont mind me piggy backing this thread, rather than start another will it run thread!

Re: Will it work?
Even older cards like GTX260,270 or GTX460 and better ones, can handle TS2014.
The most important thing here is CPU and memory. Every i3, i5 or i7 with clock higher than 3.5 GHz will handle this game easily.

Re: Will it work?
Yes, but even newer low-spec cards like the GT 640 mentioned are not really adequate. (It has an OK benchmark score but rather low memory bandwidth.)headderr wrote:Even older cards like GTX260,270 or GTX460 and better ones, can handle TS2014.
I'd go one further than deltic009 suggests, and recommend that you get a minimum of a GTX x60. If you have budget to spare and want to get something that will last a bit longer, go for an x70 if you can.
With nVidia cards, the second digit is the important one as this indicates the performance - the first digit is the generation, which is not as important.
Yes, TS requires a capable CPU but it also requires a fairly powerful GPU if you want to run it in high resolutions, anti-aliased, with rain effects and shadows enabled. Others may want to chip in, but regarding memory I don't think I've seen evidence that it requires more than 4 GB to run perfectly well (although 8 GB is probably a good idea these days anyway).

Re: Will it work?
I'd argue slightly, but only if the budget really demands it, and state that a x50 manages quite nicely unless you want to run multiple monitors or at a huge resolution (over 1920x1080)ttjph wrote:I'd go one further than deltic009 suggests, and recommend that you get a minimum of a GTX x60.
A wise choice.ttjph wrote:If you have budget to spare and want to get something that will last a bit longer, go for an x70 if you can.
Yeah, as it's a32bit app it can't 'see' past that 4GB limit--the advantage of 8GB (or more) is that it allows a 64bit OS to shuffle things around to give the impression that its actually the game that's benefiting directly.ttjph wrote:but regarding memory I don't think I've seen evidence that it requires more than 4 GB to run perfectly well (although 8 GB is probably a good idea these days anyway

I would also use the argument that you need to balance the mobo, cpu and RAM.
Fast cpu and low end video card = bottleneck
Low end cpu and fast video card = bottleneck
plus the mobo must be of sufficient quality to allow optimum use of the cpu, RAM, video card.
The video card VRAM must also match the monitor - eg me using a 1920 x 1200 I see in TSX OFF - 950MB VRAM used TSX ON up to 1.5 GB is used. Any monitor these days over 20" IMHO needs a 2GB VRAM gpu.
I believe that physical RAM is becoming more important as many of us use SSD's and the more RAM that we have onboard lessens the wear on a SSD.
I see in TS2014 PS and GEML a baseline RAN usage by Win 7 64-bit around 2 - 2.5GB and this rises when running these two routes up to 6GB of RAM in total leaving not too much overhead. I now use 16GB RAM on all of my rigs because it does give me a buffer if anything in the background changes and possibly lessens reads and writes to the paging file. I should add the I use Photoshop 64-bit and that love huge amounts of RAM.

Re: Will it work?
hi, thanks for all the replies, will be looking to swap out the GPU for this 760 GPU.
Last post confuses me a bit, are you saying the motherboard is insufficient?
cheers

Re: Will it work?
The motherboard is fine Gav, the H61 chipset won't hold back your prospective GPU.
Peter was making the point that adding a top notch component is only of benefit if the rest of the 'gubbins' are of a comparable spec.
