White mountains in the distance

The last discussion on this appears to have stopped in 2010 but it is still an issue with me under certain weather conditions where I'm getting white mountains/hills and sea in the distance. I'm running the game with a mixture of high and highest settings in TSX mode.

Is this something we all have to live with (as was the explanation in 2010) or has anyone out there discovered how to fix this please?

I'm sorry if this is a vague thread with minimal information but I thought I'd test the water first before going into more detail about my computer set up etc in case the answer is obvious or a definite "no"
