Fixing wagons as loaded or empty

Post by zaphr89 »

Hi, this might have been asked before but I didn't find anything when searching about it.

I would like to make two versions of some of the default loadable wagons like the Eanos, Ssylms and kbs; one empty and one loaded. The reason for this is to have more control over the brake force because Railworks.

I have modified .bin files enough times to know how to do simple stuff like change air-brake settings and such but I'm completely clueless about how to fix the geometry file (cargo) so that it is always there.

So how would I go about making these wagons always be loaded, or empty and make it so that in the loaded wagons the 3d file of the gravel, container, or other cargocomponent is always there?

From what it sounds like, for you it would be easier to make the wagon empty, then create a duplicate and then modify the duplicate for the loads.

Yeah, I tried a temporary solution: make duplicates of the loadable .bin file, rename them to loaded and unloaded and change the cargo component capacity/mass on both to 0 and then just modify the wagon mass on both to either tare weight or tare + cargo. This should keep the brake-force-by-weight to what it says in the .bin file, right?

So.. I cloned the wagons in RW_tools and edited the cloned bin-files (they got placed in the default folder instead of the wagon folder, but a GeoPcDx file was created in the same place)

The wagons show up in the list inside Railworks but they are invisible. I thought this had to do with the wagons being outside of the wagon folder so I moved them inside but now the wagons don't even show up in the list in the scenario editor.

I guess they should stay in their original place, but how do i get them to show?

I never use RW Tools to clone the assets - I copy and paste the files into a new folder, then use RW Tools to edit the copy BIN file to read properly.

I noticed that I had used the function "clone-scenery-for-repaint", I didn't think about it stating "scenery" and then I found the function clone default asset, still doesn't work though. Wagon shows up in the rolling stock list but is invisible.

What files do you copy when duplicating the asset? Am I correct in assuming you need the geo-file, bin-file, bogie/wheel files, texture folder and numbers-file?

I'm gonna try it your way, but I don't know how to edit a wagon in RW_tools. I guess you select the wagon by going to, edit assets - finding the folder of the asset - clicking "add to list", but then what. In the "edit rolling stock" menu I don't see any functions for editing wagons, only "edit rolling stock physics" for diesel, electric or steam. I don't see anything for wagons. Am I in the wrong place?

Under the wagon folder, normally you have "default". I go into this, copy the contents, go back to the wagon folder, create a new folder (and name as appropriate), go into it, and paste.

Then I enter RW tools and edit the relevant BIN files (normally to change the location lines and the item name) and a quick test to make sure it works and all's fine.

How do you edit the bin files in RW tools? I know how to select the bin file, but not how to edit it.
