The class 66 and releasing new scenarios

Post by firetrap1 »

Ok folks. So after hiding in a cave for the last year or so, and releasing no new scenarios I have now 7 new items which are ready for upload to uktrainsim.

These cover:
steam on the Settle & Carlisle
EMU's on the WCML-N
11 car Pendolinos on the WCML-N
Classic electric traction on the WCML-N
ECS moves on unusual WCML-N diagrams

However, I have a real issue with the class 66, specifically which version to use for freight AI:

The original RSDL (RailSimulator) version
The Settle & Carlisle version (EWS version)
or
The newer RSC class 66v2 versions

Any advice?

Well I have two out of the three so....

I'd suggest you should consider the other assets you are using in the scenario's. If you make use of stuff that used to be "core" then go with the earlier version, as potential downloaders are more likely to have that. If you're using only the later "core" then go with the latest version(s), ditto.

BTW, it's been a while since I uploaded anything myself and this is largely the reason why; I simply dont have the time or patience to work out what comes from where when it comes to writing the scenario descriptions.

Steam workshop is nice, but the lack of inclusion for repaints of trains sucks the life out of scenarios for the WCML.

As I do most(not all) of my driving in the cab, whenever I have a scenario with the class 66 I always
change it to the 66v2 because of the cab quality of lights etc.

For AI i would more suggest the S&C ones.

Although with the 66v2s you do get extra freight stock that might come very much in hand though.

Why not include three different versions in one pack? Makes your audience much larger and saves people lots of work with RWTools.

Use which ever one suits you. If you upload the scenarios to UKTS then 'we' can use RWTools to swap out to whatever version 'we' have. I don't think it's problem for most of us. If you upload to SteamWorkshop then you have to have all the default assets.............and some are no longer available so it then becomes a problem,

Haha, someone wants to make you work a bit harder! Seriously though the S&C would probably be the best bet, as mentioned we can always swap them out anyway.
