Yes well there doesn't appear to any rules to it! When I increased the friction values, slightly, it wouldn't slip at all! Quirky or what! Strangely, the Stanier Mogul has a much more stable wheelslip function.

On the WLOS it was quite slippy with 8 on up to about 30 then it settled down when linked up and would take full reg without slipping even on a gradient in the 70s.

I've not driven a 5, but have driven a couple of 4s and an 8. Even on load 5, the 4 was pretty lively in the dry without gentle reg and starting at 55 cut off. The 8 was more sure footed but the real things demand careful driving in my experience.

Nice to have to pay attention driving in the sim now

I think thats the real point here. Regardless of how it matches RL, its certainly more realistic with it in, its another thing to factor in. Not to mention it looks (and sounds) cool as ****!

I tend to adjust the idle coal mass of locos to a lower value which will result in lower initial steam production, you can then build up the fire if you need to.

I am also very pleased with the sound pack.

Get what your saying but you end up with very little fire and only a reduced psi,I personally would like to have the fire low and the psi low.I've been trying for ages to get a formula that works.Maybe there's a way to adjust the starting boiler water level???

Have just yesterday gone and purchased both the 4MT soundpack and the Black 5 . After installing the 4MT with the installer .exe ,went for a quick spin using the Quick Drive option and must say the sounds are fantastic. I then uninstalled it using the installer and ran the exact same scenario again to gauge the sound differences only to find that there was an error in loading and the scenario broke, and would not load. I thought that by using the uninstall option all the sounds would revert back to the default sounds as when the 4MT was first installed. Anyway all fixed now and I know what to do now should I wish to go back to the original sounds.

Now, before I go ahead install the Black 5 sounds using the package manager (I usually install manually,copying over the files) , if for some reason I wish to uninstall the the Black 5 sounds again using the package manager and I'm sure I won't want to . Would the default sounds be replaced automatically ? I don't want to have to go through the same problems that I had with the 4MT. Anyone know ?

The B5 pack doesnt come with a self installer (Myself and others were having problems with it so SSS decided to go down the proven RWP route).

So, no you can "uninstall" them. However If you make backups of the B5 folders you can always delete the originals and pop the backups back to return to default sounds.

Trust me though, you wont want to.

Has anyone else found that the sensitivity to slip varies within a scenario? I ran 'Border Hop' yesterday and I could make the loco slip by being clumsy for most of the run. Once I'd turned off the main line for the cross-over connection to Kingmoor Yard at Floriston it was a different story. The loco slipped at nothing and it was very hard to make any progress, even with the sanders constantly in use. Once past Kingmoor and running parallel to the main line things returned to how they'd been before and I could run the steam-chest pressure right up to boiler pressure without too many problems whereas 60 psi was about all I could use just before.

I'm guessing it's a function of a track rule and it's a different kind of track where slipping is so prevalent.

Hi Keith, and yes I've found the same problem with the Thames Clyde Express scenario (off Steam??). Starting from a standstill was always a bit of a challenge, but it was exceedingly difficult to stop wheel slip on a certain part of the scenario where you join the main line at Gretna for the final run to Carlisle. There is a section where the speed limit is 40 mph until you join the main when it becomes 90, and baring in mind I was already rolling, I had a hard time picking up speed without excessive slip

Is it linked to gradient? It is possible to add slip function to scenarios but I wasn't aware this is often done.

I don't think slipping function links to track unevenness or camber, it really isn't that sophisticated

I seem to recall something about this from getting a wheelslip light to work on something of ours.
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but the current precipitaion seems to play the biggest part in whether (weather) a loco slips or not.

We found that season has no effect on adhesion but as soon as it starts to snow or rain the adhesion drops and wheelslip occurs and becomes progressively worse with time.
As soon as the rain/snow stops the adhesion returns to normal.

On the two scenarios mentioned above, what is the weather doing at the time you noticed reduced adhesion?

Border Hop is an Autumn scenario, set during the day, and the weather is clear and bright. Whatever the cause, on the WLOS it isn't the gradient. The train climbed any gradient without slipping along the Port Road but began to slip very easily after being diverted off the Carlisle-Glasgow main line south of the junction at Gretna. The lack of adhesion was clear even on the flat sections but it vanished after Kingmoor Yard had been passed and the train could be pushed much harder without any suggestion of slip.

On the Thames Clyde Express it's in wet conditions, which is entirely ok of course to have wheel slip, but I was surprised how hard it was to graduate from an already rolling speed to a higher speed as I described in my earlier post, and it did seem to be only on that section, and also to be pretty excessive compared with the rest of the scenario. I will admit I'm a pretty average driver, but surely I can't be that bad????? I finished with a score of 92. ..... %, 7%+ being lost largely to slipping - the lowest I've ever scored on an non-career scenario. I'm not bothered about the score, but it does reflect the trouble I was having!

BTW I believe there are two scenarios called the Thames Clyde Express, and this version's for the B5, the other being for the Jubilee (just in case there's confusion
