LNER Electric Woodhead

Post by pacerfan »

Hello the rest of the forum!

I have started a what if? project to depict the Woodhead route under LNER operation in the 1950's or in other words nationalisation never happened, so purist are free to avoid this or start shouting about heresy if they are inclined to the witch-hunt side of things  . Anyway my interest in the LNER has only grown since first buying the Woodhead line when it was released and since then my poor photoshop skills have improved somewhat to the level that I can create LNER re-skins without them looking too atrocious. I have mainly started this topic to get the opinion of people here on what is to be included in the pack and as a place to put ideas/requests from you other members. And also as this combines scenarios with a heap of re-skin's plus ideas to be contributed general seems to be the place for it.

At the moment the pack includes the EM1 in apple green with matching MK1 carriages in green and cream. the EM1 cab has been re-skinned swapping the dials for new ones with L.N.E.R instead of a B.R prefix and I have been working on the coal wagons to see if improvement can be made there in terms of making a slightly less boring livery, my ideas for that so far are sticking a LNER prefix just above the weight information and adding a couple of weathered examples. For the 21t wagon I have had an idea to stick a black arrow on the side of it to create an express coal service because of the green arrow container freight on the ECML black=coal is my logic so black arrow, with blue, red ect for other express freights similar to the rail freight sectors under BR. With steam stock RSC have helpfully provided a fully appropriate stable of ex-LNER locomotives and I have the Austerity for shunting duty across the line, all that is needed is to stick some apple green paint on with LNER ovals on the tender. Now the LMS will feature because it is really hard to leave them out due to London Road being their station and I plan to have the rolling stock included with Woodhead repainted into Crimson Lake and LMS Roundels stuck on the side to make the traffic look appropriate. Other Ideas would be welcome from the people here.

Seen below is the new and improved from my simple repaint last year EM1!

That LNER livery rather suits the loco actually :)

One thing you might wish to note is that the prototype was initially given the number 6701 and later 6000 by the LNER, so you might like to consider altering the numbering sequence to reflect that.

Other than that it sounds like a very interesting project - I'm quite taken with the idea of "fiction based on fact" in general :)

Nothing wrong with a bit of "what-if?". :P As well as being able to recreate the past as it was, or the present as it is, a game allows you to depict your own fictional parallel universe, or even future. Very creative work and nice reskins. :)

Cut and paste 2x O4 chassis, add large boiler, and voila!

Hi

Great stuff! The livery really suits the loco. :D

I'd like to make a couple of comments, if I may. (Obviously I have no qualification whatsoever to comment on a ficticious reskin!)
For me the lining around the box thingy under the loco number looks a bit bright. Maybe that could get toned down or lost? It looks like it's an odd shape too, which is accentuated by the lining...

The other thing was that the LNER letters could go lower down, if possible. Not sure whether it's a constraint of the original skin?

Like I said, who am I? Great idea, beautifully executed.

:grab:

Cheers

For me, the LNER tourist liveried coaches are especially excellent. Reminds me of the West Highland rake of Mk1s from the 1980s, I think?

Yep, with 'West Highland Line' on the side. West Coast Railways now run the trains, but a set of those with a Black5 or a 37 would look (literally) tasty :p

A little update for the people here. The first of the LMS Locomotives an 08 in almost rust like Crimson Lake stands at London Road with a rake of LMS Carriages

And I request a little help with the mapping on the MK1'S as I have ran into a slight problem in that I have repainted the logo but the BR one shows instead!

Apart from this little sang progress is coming along nicely with the 76 finished - still has the BR cab but I do not know here to start on pointing the bin file in the right direction. Also it looks likely I might just repaint the default 37 into LMS livery as it is a pain to work with the Black five. Mainly because I repainted the logo into a nice LMS and having it read on one side as SML.

You'll find the BR logo maps from the SK carridge file. I found this when repainting Falmouth MK1s into 80s Choc & cream style. You'll need to edit the texture & it's alpha channel to remove it's default BR logo & replace with your own. If your unable to do this then drop me a PM and I'll give you a hand.

Thought you would have used Gresley Coaches from DT

And for LMS you always have the Pendolino
