RouteRiter Question
I'm not knocking the program just a question in case I'm doing something wrong or missing out a function.
I downloaded a route and installed it, it started to load then failed on missing files/s, after replacing the file/s it reported it failed again so I run it in RR.
RR ran the test and asked if it wanted me to replace some missing files from another route, I clicked yes and I thought great.
After it completed it's check it told me there was 2 files missing and needed replacing for the route to run.
OK found the files and put them in the correct folder, then ran then began to load the route, it loaded till almost the end then MSTS told me 2 more files were missing.
Now this is my question: If RR found the files in the check that were missing why didn't it find these other 2 that were missing and needed?
Again I'm not knocking RR, if I hadn't run the route in that I would have most probably given it up and deleted it.

Re: RouteRiter Question
Firstly after "MANUALLY" replacing files, you should always RERUN RouteRiter to ensure that the files you replaced were in fact the correct files and that RouteRiter now gives the route a "No Errors Found" report.
Unless you get the No Errors Found report, attempting to RUN MSTS will usually lead to failure.

Re: RouteRiter Question
Were the missing files texture (.ace) files, by any chance?
If so, there's always a good chance that the associated alternative (Night / Snow) textures were missed when copying across.

Re: RouteRiter Question
The missing last 2 files were Shape, Tree4.s & Tree5.s after replacing those the route ran OK for a good while then it just stopped again on me with another file JP2Rd50mStrt.sd which I replaced, not started the route up again yet.
I know this is too late now seeing as the sim is no longer produced but thinking about the way it was made you would thing they would have had main folders for the different types of files and as a route was run it took the files from the main folders and not from the folders withing the route.
That might also save on space I don't know but it seems a lot of files/folders are repeated in the routes, is that what TrainStore does in a way take out the routes and files not required till needed?
I have TrainStore but not installed it yet, thinking I might do soon, I'm just getting back in to the sim yet though.
I suppose all this has been thought of and said before.

Re: RouteRiter Question
If a shape is missing Route Riter will not be able to know what .ace file it needs or whether it requires an .sd file.
You need to run RR again for it to read the shape file after it has been installed on the first run.

Re: RouteRiter Question
Hi,
Which route is this?
Also; what exactly is the error message coming up - MSTS can give 2 very similar looking messages that have 2 different causes:
"Failed to find"
"Failed to open" (or might be "Failed to load").
The first of these means that MSTS cannot find the file - the 2nd means that the file is there, but MSTS cannot load it up due to lack of resources.

Re: RouteRiter Question
Well... I'm afraid I mucked up good style
I was also making a consist and realised the coupling didn't match but I read that RR can change the couplings, so I decided to change them all so no matter what engine or stock they would go together, Ooops!
After I did it I obviously did it wrong because when I came to run MSTS again it was throwing up all kinds of errors, so I saved what I could that I know was working like a few routes I had in folders then uninstalled MSTS.
So it is back to starting all over again.

My only comment on this is that there is a cardinal rule that should be applied before any significant change to either TS as a whole or one of the constituent folders within TS, and that is MAKE A BACK UP COPY. Therefore if a mistake is made then "messed-up" TS can be deleted and the original brought back.
I offer this based on personal experience!

Re: RouteRiter Question
Thanks Alec, I too know that but went ahead without doing it, duh!
I do make back-ups of things if they are working but in this case I didn't, I know it was my mistake.
Any way, I re-installed, in the order advised on the steam4me website, got the bin patch, xtracks, newroads, scalerail & UKfinescale all installed.
Then I installed Activity Changer... Still no luck with that.

Re: RouteRiter Question
Do a search on the forums for Activity Changer. There was an issue around trying to get it to run under the newer operating systems but I can't remember what it was.
I have it running under W7 64 bit.
