I think your probably right, Its a bit of a shame that RSC puts out so many large steam loco's that only really see any use on 25mph heritage lines or modern steam excursions instead of being able to experience them as they worked. WLOS looks to provide a good bit of mainline running though which should be good.pacerfan wrote:I find RSC making a steam era mainline route unlikely, so the A4 is probably going top be Mallard only or if we are lucky one or two more engines. not buying it of course I have the JTA4 which covers most of them and has most of the liveries anyway.

Re: RSC working on an LNER A4
I have the Just Trains A4, and love it!!! ...but being one of their older models, the cab does let it down a little... I'd still be interested in seeing what RSX come up with!!!
If they can produce a good detail model, with good sounds, and some of the refinements that the latest offerings have now got, and I'd still be tempted to upgrade!!!

Re: RSC working on an LNER A4
It's nice, but it's a shame RSC seem to be moving towards a trend of developing locomotives that have already been done, either by third parties or themselves (66, 101...). Unless they happen to include a steam-era route out of Kings Cross I can't see why those who have the JT A4 would buy it.

Re: RSC working on an LNER A4
I agree, the problem with JT's A4s has always been that there isn't a dedicated route for them unless it is for a modern preserved mainline/heritage line run.jivebunny wrote:It's nice, but it's a shame RSC seem to be moving towards a trend of developing locomotives that have already been done, either by third parties or themselves (66, 101...). A steam era route to compliment this is the only reason I would buy it. They would have been better in my opinion producing something for WLOS.
Re: RSC working on an LNER A4
Eh.. RSC do weird stuff now and then with their nostalgic trains. Even on the U.S. side too. Like the GG1 that ran on a circa 2005 Northeast Corridor pulling passenger coaches first built in 1903..

Re: RSC working on an LNER A4
Nice looking Mallard. I will be really interested when it's wrapped up in the finished textures, so I can more clearly see that utmost important shape at the front end. From what I can tell by the render, it looks like another good representation.

Re: RSC working on an LNER A4
The problem for me with Jt's A4 is the valve gear , just does'nt look right and the body of the textures either. The overall shape is ok having built one in 5"" and also working on ours at Grosmont, but also it's not on steam downloads.

Re: RSC working on an LNER A4
Regarding the valve gear of the JT one, Keith, can you say what exactly looks wrong, out of interest? I had a good look 2 nights ago and agree that something doesn't look quite right, could it be the length of the fly/return crank on the centre driving wheels? It looks to be angled correctly and the return crank rod is almost 90 degrees out of phase with the big end, but not quite a right angle, so my conclusion was the crank itself is not quite long enough. Still, at least it's very nearly right, which can't be said for all models I must say. I guess at least it's not straight in-line with the wheel centre or angled backwards like most american locos, which I've been grumbling about to my dad whilst getting out some fairly recent 00 Hornby and Backmann.

Re: RSC working on an LNER A4
Really pleased about the A4. I keep considering the JT model but from the screen shots it looks a little bit odd inside the cab. So long as RSC do a top notch model with top notch sound what is there to complain about? JT also charge a higher price for locos and I have had a variable experience buying their stuff. So roll on the competition.

Re: RSC working on an LNER A4
Simple solution to the 'suitable route' issue would be a period version of the East Coast Mainline. Given RSC's history of matching locos with routes, and the fact that it would be a much smaller job than starting from fresh... I'd be amazed if they hadn't already considered that!!!
Unless of course someone wanted to make a full London to Edinburgh route!!!

Or maybe Creative Rail could get a move on with their Peterborough-Doncaster

Re: RSC working on an LNER A4
Expecting a bit much from RSC to build a route for the A4 to run on, RSC are good at ramdom things and a miss/mash of routes and traction look at routes they have either made or sold on behalf of third partys that they have not researched to find out what runs on them and make money.
Paddington - Oxford set in modern times when RS first came out wires to west drayton but never produced 332 or 360 to run under them
WCML gave us mainline livery 86 but no class 87 although set in the modern era with LED signal but still missing class 185
Edinburgh - Glasgow although set in the present day with class 170 poeple would run BR period so could have gave us class 27 & DBSO
Brighton mainline again set present day but lacking 319 & 442 units or class 73 for BR period
I know some of these are either available or WIP by third party developers but it seems very strange on what RSC produces when a lot of products there are making are already available and would make far more revenue by making something new or something that complements other products that they have sold, there is a lot of addons that i what to buy but RSC are just not making them, currently i am waiting for 4 items that are WIP none of which are from RSC

Re: RSC working on an LNER A4
Sorry to thread-jack, but I would be happier if RSC at least finished a promised project before moving on to a new one. Still waiting on the new sound set promised for the V2 release of the UP Big Boy set more than 6 months ago. The only reason I bought it was to get a sound set that hopefully did justice to a 500 ton machine. Obviously can not be taken at their word.
That aside, love the A4's - my favourite UK loco, unfortunately never seen one run on my UK trips (did see Sir Nigel in 10,000 pieces on one trip at Bewdley on the SVR under overhaul back in the 90's and on my last trip in 2005 was going to see Union of South Africa work out of Kings Cross only to be subbed for Duchess of Sutherland with the Caledonian headboard (a fair swap I will grant)) They just need to reach the bar that Mike Rennie set with his Consolidation for cab detail and controls.
Cheers
