A Rail 3D Route

Post by jdtech »

<IMG SRC="http://album.atomic-systems.com/showPic ... ynglas.jpg">
Just a Test

Any of you use the simulator Rail 3D? I am building a not quite accurate Talyllyn Route for it and just thought I would annouce it.

If any of you are interested in Rail 3D and can make models in it I would be grateful for No. 1 Talyllyn and Nos. 4 & 5 Coaches.

I already have No2 Dolgoch and coaches 1 - 3 plus some wagons and alot of Southwold Stock.

Hi,

I use Rail3D, and you probably have my TR wagons.

I started No4 ages ago, but as I haven't got any drawings I am finding it extremely hard to do anything with it at the moment.

I have drawings for No1 Talyllyn, so I will give it a go, although time is very limited at the moment, due to my final year Uni project that needs to be done.

A updated Dolgoch is also on my list of things to build when I've got time. (I've got drawings for this too).

If you haven't already have you joined the egroup for Rail3D? if not its here...

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/railway3d/

The TR bogie coaches have also been built by one of members.

All my stock and scenery is also on my site, http://rail3d.richsoftcomputing.co.uk. There are items from many railways I have built.

I hope this helps,

Cheers

What is done on the TR route:

Tywyn is nearly finished - Just the Platform needs to be longer since only 3 Bogies will fit in

Pendre completed - but with 1 less shed road than the real railway

Rhydyronen - Done with trees and bridge

Brynglas - Station and loop in place, temporary terminus. No scenery

What is not finished on the TR route:

Line to Quarry Siding and Dolgoch scenery aka falls
Proper in-line scenery, not just stations
A proper bridge at Rhydyronen, not just a double tunnel mouth!
Final leg to Nant Gwernol
Incline possible!

All is fine! Good luck on the stock Richard!

Regards
John

Another Talyllyn Update

I have:

Competed all the Station Scenery for the parts of the railway I've built.

The Dolgoch Falls look rubbish but I just can't do them! I've used a stream and many trees and fences.

Line to Dolgoch Falls but not to Quarry Siding, yet...

Station Status

Tywyn Wharf - Done Scenery and BR Line Station is the only thing

Pendre - Complete but a few trees to finish off if required

Rhydyronen - Virtually Complete; just some tidying up

Brynglas - Complete and lookin' good!

Dolgoch Falls - Just about Complete but could do with rethinking the Falls

At this time there is no in-line scenery (between stations) as this is coming last

I need a Talyllyn style bridge as well; since there are no good NG bridges and at the moment I'm using a NG Tunnel Mouth.

Regards,
John aka Jdtech

Here is a pic, sorry it's blurred but I had to convert from .bmp to .jpeg because of the AtomIC Albums system

Looking cool...

Building stock/scenery is pretty easy, it just takes a while to get used to it. You have to type in all the panels that make an item, individually, which is very time consuming, and sometimes confusing.

Once you get the hang of it. its OK, and you can make some very detailed models.

I would personally like a editor like TSM, but some of the other users think thats a bad thing, what do you think?. I have been writing on one over the last year, but its nowhere near finished. I bet Abacus had a few more people working on TSM than one very busy Computer Science student :)

I was thinking about doing a Talyllyn style bridge before, I will see what I can do tomorrow. The main problem is getting textures to look good, but I see what I can do.

I agree there is a lack of good scenery for Rail3D. Most people are build nice trains, but very few build scenery. Have you got my/Phil E's Dolgoch station building, and my TR platforms with the edging?

Scenery is a lot quicker to do than stock, and if you want to learn the stock editor I would definately start with scenery. Its done in the same way.

The Falls, thats an interesting problem....
We could do the viaduct, (although the arches would be fun, I hate working out the panels for curves :( ), but the actualy falls would be quite hard to do. I'll think about this....

Tywyn station building would be quite easy to knock up, especially now its all bricked up. Although I would need some pictures to get it right. I had to waot there long enough in the summer waiting for a train back the Machynlleth, only to have to wait there for the stupidly worked out connection back to Birmingham in the rain.

Cheers

Richard
