It sounds like you are doing what i did when i first tried using the 'EasyApply' utility in class 47 pro. When you select the loco that you want to change the sounds on, another folder comes up underneath called 'Engine' (you usually have to scroll down once to see it). Select this folder and a file will pop up in the right hand larger box that may say 'class 43_.bin' or something like that. You need to highlight this line and then click the 'Modify Sounds' button. If you just select the locomotive number and click 'Modify Sounds', you will end up with the .bak file name change problem that you are experiencing.
