L&B Lew - Whats the latest news?

Post by BruceB »

Reading through back issuses of Narrow Guage News (NGRS), I found a article (Jan 1992) about L&B loco Lew. It says that the was a 'discovery' in 1992, reported in Railway World, but doesn't say the details. As I don't have the copy of RW, could anybody fill me in on what has been found out about the loco, after it left our shores in 1935.

The discovery was probably the original Chimney from Lew, which was found on a steamroller.

That is a big engine. The originals, double heading 9 bogie coaches up the 1 in 50, must have been a sight.

No, I don't think so because that is more recent and the chimney is from Yeo not Lew.

Post L&B stories pop up every so often, they are nearly as famous as the real thing. How many people have been to Brazil looking for Lew?

Still waiting for some L&B stuff for MSTS or Trainz folks - anybody out there building a route or stock etc.

Should be plenty of interest as the first section at Woody Bay is opening this Easter.

PS: check out my four-page history of L&B's American loco Lyn in this month's Model Rail magazine (March issue) - there are a couple of nice pics too of the engine.

Don't forget the Isle of Man has more narrow gauge than you can wave a stick at. Steam - Diesel - Electric and even Horse power - Visitors most welcome...........

It's a route I'd love to build and Kevin Martin has shown a slight interest in doing the stock for it but we are both working on other projects at the moment. One day, maybe (and it's a lovely part of the world for field trips).
