Agreed, but I prefer to use Paint Shop Pro if I'm after "old-style" screenshots.

I am looking forward to it very much even with only one loco. I just assumed that after the Woodhead and S & C routes had two or three loco's/stock included then that might be the way they were going to package routes in the future.

I still can't wait to get my virtual hands on it!

Woodhead also came while the Black 5 was a default assest. Now its a part of a specific piece of DLC so bundling it in a route is now (in RSCs eyes) perfectly fine.
If only all problems on the big railway could simply be TAB'd past...

The choice of inlcuded stock is for me the difference between an immediate purchase and a wait for the sales purchase. With it just having a Black 5 and a few wagons and carriages which we probably already have anyway, its going to be a wait for the sales.

Well it won't be a wait for me as I want to support Keith, one kettle or no. I have plenty of appropriate stock in any case, that would be plenty of diesely goodness!

Would the O4 or the B1 be appropriate on the line? The Class 31 or 33?

I don't know about the 31s and 33s, but prototypical operations the O4s and B1s wouldn't have got over there since they were eastern region locos, it was a LMS region so mostly ex-LMS and standards were around on the route. The earlier era br green diesels may have appeared right at the end of the lines life, but it didn't go beyond the 70s as "The Port Road".

You'd see mucky B1s around Carlisle as they went North East up the arduous Waverley Route to Edinburgh Waverley, as well as A3s, K3s, V2s, the odd A4 etc.

Well I think it's mainly going to be steam for me - at Dumfries Madras gets the Glasgow road while 2P 40614 waits to set off with a Port Road local.

This thread seems to be re-covering old ground from other discussions on this forum.

There is no evidence to suggest the Port Road itself ever saw diesel traction before closure, although I would be hesitant to use the word "never". The section of this TS2013 route between Carlisle and Dumfries (and possibly between Challoch Junction and Stranraer) would have been likely to see early diesel traction. At that time Class 31s (as they were later known) would have been confined to the Eastern Region and the 33s to the Southern.

Keith Moss is a route developer and not (to my knowledge) a locomotive builder and his products are marketed through RailSimulator.com. As such I would not expect, in any circumstance, any new locomotive to be thrown in with the package and in all honesty I feel that anybody who does is simply hoping to get something for nothing. In order that the route is usable "out of the box" and not dependent on the presence of other products is necessary to provide something it makes total sense to supply a Black 5 and a few bog-standard carriages and trucks. We don't know yet, but unless RailSimulator.com or Keith Moss are prepared to produce maroon repaints, the stock may well be green or carmine and cream.

The Black 5 is actually a good choice as in the depicted period this was the typical motive power on local services. The two expresses daily each way probably had larger locomotives and/or were double-headed - I'm not sure whether Jubilees were typical visitors but I do know the sleepers were regularly Clan-worked at one time. Kingmoor probably provided most of the motive power for the expresses but don't even think of pushing a Coronation across there!

Other motive power at Dumfries and Stranraer sheds around the time included 2P and 4P 4-4-0s, LMS 4MT 2-6-4Ts, 5MT Crabs, Standard 4MT 2-6-0s and an assortment of low-powered tank and tender engines of Scottish origin in the 5xxxx number series, most of which would not have enough power to climb the gradients on the Port Road with much of a train and probably never worked across. One 2MT Standard 2-6-0 was present at Stranraer in the mid-sixties but it would also lack power for regular use on the route. Anyone that thinks that the DT Standard 2MT was being specially held for inclusion (as has been suggested elsewhere on this forum) with the route must be in cloud cuckoo-land. That is an unrelated product from a different developer.

The truth is that the Black 5 is about the most appropriate locomotive to be supplied with the route but if the route kicks developers into action to produce a nice Crab or Standard 4 I would instantly open my wallet but I'm certainly not holding my breath.

Just to add a little more to John's post: Britannia's were used on the boat trains, as were the Clan's, and it is not beyond the realms of possibility that a B1 could have travelled the Port Road. A few miles up to the north Ayr had seven B1's and they often worked down to Stranraer. They were shedded there until the last two departed 22.08.1964
Dumfies allocation for what is modelled is: Fowler 2P, Fowler 4F, Stanier B5, Fowler 3F, Ivatt 2MT, BR 4MTT and BR 2MT Stranraer's allocation for what is modelled was: Fowler 2P, Fowler 3F, Stanier B5, Ivatt 2MT, BR 2MT and BR 4MTT
The only photographic evidence of diesels that I have seen are of 1st generation DMU's and an 03 shunter at Dumfries.

Incidentally, I have now read the stock will be maroon so there is "something new" to be had with the route.

The reason a lack of stock saddens me is because it 90% of the time means the supplied scenarios aren't very interesting. I suppose we'l have to wait for scenario packs done by this great community. I was hoping for a near immersive experience out of the box!

Or if you have alternative stock that you wish to use, swap it for yourself with RW Tools.

Should be quick drive compatible too. Although the general lack of AI (or A1 as I have seen it amusingly called!) in that mode kills it.
