The Port Road- out soon

The massive Port Road is "out soon" according to RailSims Facebook page

My prediction is next Thursday...

And those who predicted the "Scotttish Route" in the last "Whats new" email newsletter would be Port Road are probably correct:

Western Lines of Scotland - "The Port Road" is a new Train Simulator 2013 add-on that is in the final stages of development from Keith Ross, who is well known for his amazing work on West Coast Mainline North. It features the lines from Carlisle to Dumfries, Dumfries to Castle Douglas and Castle Douglas to Stranraer and also includes a 10 mile branch down to Kirkcudbright giving a total of around 130 miles. The route is set in the early 1960's BR period, shortly before The Port Road was closed in 1965.

Quick question - it said the route closed in 1965 - but there still is a service to Stranraer... is this a different line?

Yes.

But if this route enlarged is as has been suggested in the "tantalise" videos posted, the part nearest Stranraer will overlap with that. Likewise, Carlisle to Dumfries is still open, of course.

No suggestion that it will and no reason, really. There are plenty of toys available appropriate to the line that can be purchased. The videos show mostly third party commercial products.

Pretty much all the early and late era BR blue diesels ended up around the route and before than scottish region steam locos, standard designs and the usual black 5s and so forth. One of Keith's more recent videos of his route will give you a pretty good idea aswell. Sorry about not able to list the classes, but outside of the 40, 37 and 47 I can't name the rest without them all going ###s due to the forum rules.

That's some good quantity and variation of route mileage, the first Port Road was superb so I can't wait to see the quality of this newer edition.

RSCs recent policy has been a route / stock bundle. That applies to pretty much every route I can think of for the past couple of years, hence me posing the question. I bet it includes at least one item, even if it's a v2 class 37 with 1 reskin

Gotta be wise with money. I've probably already sunk £350 into this sim. I've been waiting ever since talk of an extended Port Road started at UKTS at least a year ago.

Crikey, only £350?

£20 on L4D2 -> 723 hours and counting (2.7p/hr).
£27 on Skyrim -> 173 hours and counting (15.6p/hr).
£350 on TS2013 -> 552 hours and counting (63.4p/hr).

The price-to-hour ratio is surprisingly poor for me anyway!

Going back to Port Road, I'll probably only run free roams on it anyway since I really dislike the driving characteristics of BR diesel and the new Steam engine interface. I'm getting it for the scenery alone. The free version is already one of the most stunning and atmospheric routes out there.

Ahh no problem - sounds a great route for variety, and base don how good the WCML is and the original Port Road... its going to be a real good one...

last time I tried to get a Patriot up the Short Port Road I run out of speed and stopped

Basically whatever ran on the WCML that wasn't electric could be diverted,theoretically via the Dumfries-Carlisle section (G&SW)

Talking from a kettle driver point of view in the simulator, the scope for 130miles of driving and having a non-electric Carlisle opens up alot to have alot of steam engines moving about especially with a busy steam era Carlisle, at this point we have nearly all the steamers which could be used on Port road and all the carriage stock is available now from various vendors to.

Hopefully quite a few scenarios will pop up after release with that theme in mind.
